Position Overview

As a result of our continued strategic growth, we are seeking a Project Manager to join our highly respected water resources team. This is an opportunity to take ownership of meaningful infrastructure projects that directly impact public health and environmental sustainability. This role focuses on the management, design, permitting, and delivery of projects related to water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and collection/conveyance systems.

The ideal candidate will combine strong technical proficiency with project management experience, client relationship skills, and regulatory knowledge, while providing coordination and oversight throughout all phases of project execution.

Compensation range: $120,000-$160,000 (commensurate with experience)

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Lead full project lifecycle delivery, including development of proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and schedules; establish and maintain project controls to proactively manage scope, budget, schedule, and risk; monitor performance, allocate resources strategically, and drive accountability to achieve on-time, on-budget, and high-quality outcomes.
  • Design & Documentation: Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for engineering deliverables, including reports, design drawings, specifications, permitting documents, and bid packages; ensure deliverables meet firm standards for technical excellence, constructability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Permitting: Direct permitting strategy and execution, including preparation and review of applications and coordination with regulatory agencies; serve as a key point of contact with NJDEP and local authorities, proactively identifying and resolving regulatory challenges to maintain project momentum.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop multidisciplinary project teams, including assigning responsibilities, mentoring staff, and optimizing resource utilization; foster a high-performance environment focused on accountability, professional growth, and technical excellence.
  • Client Coordination: Serve as the primary client relationship manager throughout the project lifecycle. Maintain proactive communication, anticipate client needs, and resolve challenges effectively; strengthen client partnerships to drive repeat business and contribute to proposal development and pursuit strategy.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical guidance in the planning, design, and permitting of water and wastewater infrastructure, including treatment facilities, pump stations, and conveyance systems; support complex problem-solving and guide teams toward practical, innovative engineering solutions.
  • Professional Engagement: Actively engage in professional organizations and industry forums, representing the firm and enhancing CP Engineers' visibility and reputation within the water resources market.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering field.
  • New Jersey Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in water/wastewater engineering with demonstrated project management responsibility, including scope, schedule, and budget oversight.
  • Experience managing client-facing projects and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact directly with clients and stakeholders.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites, municipal meetings, and client locations as needed.
