General Description
This is a supervisory position responsible for the coordination of materials management involving the receipt, storage, distribution and shipment of library materials throughout Monroe County. The employee supervises and schedules the work of truck drivers, shipping aides, and mailroom staff and has latitude to make decisions in the Shipping Department. General supervision is provided by the Assistant Library Director in the MCLS Office.Related work is done as required.

Hours: Monday - Friday: 6:30AM - 3:30PM
Typical Work Activities
  • Supervises and performs warehousing activities such as receiving, processing, storing, disbursing, and shipping stock;
  • Contacts vendors regarding discrepancies and damage in shipments;
  • Maintains & coordinates the Shipping/Delivery and vehicle reservation page on the e-portal, including the Central Library staff-use vehicle;
  • Coordinates and performs special pick-ups and deliveries for MCLS and RPL Foundation and coordinates courier delivery service to return non-MCLS items to schools or non-member libraries;
  • May participate in daily delivery as needed;
  • Contacts trucking firms to arrange for shipment of materials;
  • Prepares a variety of forms, including bills of lading and payroll reports;
  • Supervises receipt and distribution of mail delivered throughout the county-wide library system, as well as U.S. mail;
  • Trains and supervises support staff in mail handling procedures including appropriate safety practices;
  • Collects and maintains statistical information on postal activity for budget purposes;
  • Provides assistance to departments and staff regarding postal regulations and time sensitive materials;
  • Schedules vehicle maintenance and repair with City and County garages;
  • Monitors department productivity for delivery, sort, stock, and mail functions;
  • Prepares and presents written and tabular reports about the department and publishes Shipping Department statistics on the staff e-portal;
  • Reviews latest trends in the transportation industry for application within the department;
  • Interviews, selects, trains, schedules,and counsels staff, including safety practices and concerns.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or Equivalent AND Three (3) years' experience in warehousing (stock handling, receipt, storage, and issuance of materials), one (1) year of which was in a supervisory position.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid NYS Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License at the time of appointment.
This license must be maintained throughout employment in this job title.
