Chef de Cuisine โ€“ SURA NYC

Location: Bushwick/Ridgewood, Brooklyn, NY

SURA NYC is seeking a talented and passionate Chef de Cuisine to lead the culinary team of our modern Korean-American restaurant and hidden speakeasy concept.

SURA blends contemporary Korean flavors with global influences in a chef-driven, elevated dining experience. We are looking for a leader who is creative, organized, hands-on, and passionate about developing both people and menus. This role is ideal for a chef who thrives in a collaborative environment and is excited to help shape the future of a growing hospitality brand.

Responsibilities
  • Lead all daily kitchen operations, including prep, service, staffing, and cleanliness.

  • Execute and maintain the highest standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation.

  • Collaborate with ownership and management on menu development, seasonal specials, and tasting experiences.

  • Train, mentor, and develop BOH team members while fostering a positive kitchen culture.

  • Manage food cost, labor cost, inventory, ordering, and waste control.

  • Ensure compliance with all NYC Department of Health regulations and food safety standards.

  • Oversee recipe development, prep systems, and kitchen organization.

  • Work closely with FOH leadership to deliver exceptional guest experiences.

  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management of kitchen staff.

  • Lead by example during service and maintain a calm, professional presence in a high-volume environment.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 3โ€“5 years of experience in a Chef de Cuisine, Executive Sous Chef, or senior kitchen leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of Korean ingredients and modern cooking techniques preferred.

  • Experience managing high-volume and quality-driven restaurant operations.

  • Proven leadership and team development skills.

  • Strong organizational and communication abilities.

  • Experience with inventory management, food costing, and labor controls.

  • NYC Food Protection Certificate preferred (or willingness to obtain).

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
