HudMed is seeking two dedicated, reliable, and professional Commercial Box Truck Drivers to manage medical logistics between our base in Hillsborough, NJ, and premier hospital networks in New York City.
Because we handle specialized medical logistics and strict climate-controlled cargo, 100% compliance with federal safety laws is non-negotiable. Our operation is meticulously structured around the FMCSA 14-Hour Rule and the 150 Air-Mile Short-Haul Exemption. We provide a highly organized, gridlock-safe schedule designed to ensure our drivers never have to compromise safety or legality for speed.
Shift Availability & Operations
We are hiring for two distinct, dedicated shifts. Both routes utilize a coordinated "hospital swap" system and company-provided shuttle vehicles to maximize efficiency and keep your hours fully compliant.
- Shift 1: The Early Morning Shift (Approx. 03:15 AM – 01:00 PM)
- The Routine: Clock in at the Hillsborough base, perform a digital pre-trip inspection, and drive the box truck north into NYC for early morning hospital deliveries.
- The Hand-Off: Once deliveries are completed and the truck is safely staged, you will hand off the keys to the afternoon team, board a company shuttle vehicle, and head back to NJ.
- Hours: Gives you a predictable, steady workday of approximately 9.5 to 10 hours.
- Shift 2: The "Gridlock-Safe" Afternoon/Night Shift (Approx. 10:30 AM – 11:15 PM)
- The Routine: Clock in at Hillsborough and take a company shuttle car into NYC to take over the truck from the morning driver.
- The Gridlock Break: This shift features a built-in, afternoon rest period where you park the truck to sit out the heavy afternoon NYC rush-hour traffic before completing final evening loops and driving the truck back to the NJ base.
- The Closeout: Complete a nightly vehicle decontamination and log data at the home base before clocking out.
- Hours: Offers longer hours (approx. 12.75 hours) with a built-in legal safety buffer to protect you from traffic delays.
- Weekend Schedule: Both positions participate in a rotating weekend schedule. Weekends feature a simplified, single-driver daytime run (approx. 6.25 hours total) with no vehicle swaps required.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a commercial box truck between central New Jersey and NYC hospital loading docks.
- Utilize Verizon Connect (ELD) to accurately log duty status, ensuring strict adherence to Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
- Manage digital cargo tracking via the e-Manifest app for all medical pickups and deliveries.
- Monitor and maintain strict Cold Chain temperature logs (ensuring cargo remains between 68°F–73°F).
- Perform mandatory vehicle safety inspections (pre-trip) and nightly terminal decontamination (electrostatic fogging) of the truck.
- Physically exchange, push, and secure wheeled medical utility carts at facility loading docks.
Position Requirements
- Experience & Licensing: Must possess a valid, clean driver's license. Prior experience driving commercial box trucks (16ft–26ft) is highly preferred. Must be a competent, confident driver capable of navigating tight NYC streets and loading zones.
- DOT Background & Compliance: Must successfully pass a comprehensive DOT background check, employment verification, and a mandatory DOT physical.
- Drug & Alcohol Testing: Must pass a pre-employment DOT drug test and remain compliant with random DOT drug and alcohol screening pools.
- Tech Literacy: Must be comfortable using smartphones/tablets to navigate fleet management apps, ELDs, and digital manifests daily.
Benefits & Perks
- Competitive Hourly Pay: $30.00-$35.00/hour with stable, predictable scheduling.
- Protected CDL/License: Our routes are fully compliant with the 150 air-mile short-haul exemption, ensuring you always get a minimum of 10 consecutive hours off between shifts and never break the 14-hour daily wall.
- Paid to Wait: Your afternoon traffic rest periods are fully factored into your paid day. We map our schedules so you aren't stressed by NYC gridlock.
- Top-Tier Technology: Drive modern, well-maintained equipment backed by Verizon fleet tracking and safety tools.
