Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE
NWSL Atlanta is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead the organization's accounting function and oversee financial planning and analysis (FP&A), including annual budgeting, variance analysis, and special projects. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will be instrumental in building a best-in-class finance organization, establishing scalable processes, and hiring a high-performing team ahead of the club's 2028 launch. This position will also serve as the primary Finance liaison to the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant league reporting.
This fully onsite role will be based at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA, until 2028 when the role will be based at our new world-class training facility in Marietta, GA.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Lead the annual budgeting process
  • Oversee monthly financial statements and key performance indicators
  • Communicate financial insights, analysis, and performance results to department leaders
  • Support the Chief Financial Officer in financial modeling and scenario analysis
  • Collaborate with Club Leadership to evaluate and manage the financial impact of business cases and capital investments

Accounting & Controllership Functions
  • Oversee all general ledger activities, including bank and account reconciliations, fixed assets, and related processes
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with U.S. GAAP and applicable tax regulations
  • Lead month-end close and annual audit
  • Support the Chief Financial Officer in cash flow management, treasury, insurance programs, and tax compliance

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with the Chief Financial Officer to establish best-in-class financial processes in support of the club's 2028 launch
  • Partner with finance teams and operational staff across the Blank Family of Businesses (BFOB) to identify and solve business problems, support strategic initiatives, and improve operating performance
  • Lead all NWSL Atlanta team financial reporting
  • Lead or support special projects and other initiatives as needed

Leadership & Team Development
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team of 1-2
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including 3-5 years of experience at the manager level
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Experience with a professional sports league or club (NWSL a plus)
  • Proven experience overseeing general ledger, audit, and financial close processes
  • Demonstrated ability to build and improve financial processes and controls in a dynamic environment
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting software and systems; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong leadership experience with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams
  • Excellent communication and business partnering skills, including the ability to work effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional teams
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities, with a strategic and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and maintain confidentiality
