Job description

Overview

The Nutrition Assistant collaborates with both nutrition staff and hospital staff to provide optimal care and wellness to patients, staff, and visitors of Northern Arizona Healthcare. This position works with the Clinical Dietitans, and Cooks, by preparing food for patients, visitors, and staff using menus, recipes, production sheets, tally sheets, cooking equipment, cooking methods, and using safe food handling techniques to help provide optimal nutritional care and wellness.S/he ensures that food production is of high quality and that all foods are prepared, cooked, and served in accordance with specified recipes and procedures. S/he maintains and carries out all NAH policies and procedures and ensures compliance with all CMS, County and other applicable regulatory agencies. The Nutrition Assistant participates in dish room actities, cahsiering, call center, and positions on the patient tray line.He os she may participate in training new staff, assisting with schedules for staff. The Nutrition Assistant must know the electronic patient menu system and take room service meal orders in the call center following dietary guidelines and protocols.


Responsibilities

Food Preparation
* Demonstrates knowledge of dietary office system and ability to access patient diet list, electronic diet office system.
* Prepares food prep for patient and café line.
* Provides assistance in the dish room as need and scheduled.
* Checks all patient trays for diet modifications and accuracy at meal service.
* Prepares and delivers patient trays, nourishments, and snacks for all patients.
* Works Presentation station, serving food.
* Works as a cashier for lunch periods and as scheduled.
* Fills, delivers, records on Catertrax billing and stocks food and supplies on nursing inpatient and nursing outpatient units or departments.
* Prepares Grab and Go items, and par levels for patient tray line and café.
* Substitutes as a Barista to fill PTO and call off needs.
* Cross trained in several areas of kitchen.
* Work as a cashier at café, coffee shop or Gift shop.
* Stocks and fills vending machines through campus.
* Sort Supplies for patient pantry units.
Sanitization/Safety
* Adheres to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP).
* Follows the master cleaning guidelines when on job routine or asked.
* Adheres to established protocol for cleaning of all service ware: remove * debris, wash, rinses, sanitize and air dry before storage * Adheres to infection precautions when delivering trays and snacks to patient rooms.

* Adheres to proper cleaning and maintenance of work station-clean, wash, rinse, and sanitize prior to start of preparation, during preparation, and at end of preparation.
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent qualifying experience- Preferred
Certification & Licensures
  • VVMC: Yavapai County Food Handler's Card within 30 days of hire- Required
Experience
  • Barista coffee experience - Preferred
  • Healthcare food service experience- Preferred
  • Diet technician/nutrition experience- Preferred
  • Computer experience- Preferred
  • Cash register experience- Preferred
