The Scientist serves as a technical subject matter expert supporting product maintenance, reformulation, and continuous improvement for nutritional beverage, food, and dietary supplement products. This role leads reformulation initiatives, evaluates alternate raw materials, resolves production and product-related issues, and supports cost savings opportunities while maintaining product quality, regulatory compliance, and consumer expectations. The Scientist partners with Quality, Manufacturing, Strategic Sourcing, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, and external suppliers to implement technical solutions that support supply continuity, manufacturing efficiency, and business objectives. This role also supports stability programs related to packaging changes and independently manages multiple projects in a cross-functional environment.

HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE: 

Your day-to-day impact will be visible, meaningful, and cross-functional. Here is what you will spend your time doing:

Lead product maintenance projects involving ingredient, formula, process, and supplier changes ensuring successful implementation (i.e product quality, safety, regulatory compliance) and commercial execution (i.e. high first time right, launch targets).

Identify, evaluate, and implement cost savings/formula optimization/risk mitigation initiatives through ingredient optimization, alternate sourcing strategies, process improvements, and formulation changes.

Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve raw material issues and product events by conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.

Design, execute, and interpret laboratory, pilot, and manufacturing trials to support reformulation activities, raw material qualifications, and process improvements.

Develop stability study protocols associated with new packaging components and evaluate results to ensure product quality, shelf-life, and regulatory compliance.

Generate technical reports, summarize findings, and communicate recommendations/gain alignment with cross-functional interested parties (i.e Quality, Strategic Sourcing, suppliers, and Manufacturing) and management.

Use statistical and scientific methodologies to evaluate formulation changes, manufacturing performance, and stability data.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external suppliers to resolve technical challenges and support business objectives.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

The Technical Services team is comprised of members with unique background experiences that ensure each teammate gains a comprehensive understanding of the development process through commercialization.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL: 

Experience:

Technical expertise in nutritional beverage, food, and dietary supplement formulations, ingredient functionality, manufacturing processes and applicable FDA/regulatory requirements.

Working knowledge of raw material qualification strategies, alternate ingredient assessment, and technical evaluation of ingredient substitutions. 

Demonstrated ability to lead projects with minimal supervision. 

Proficient root cause analysis skills to resolve manufacturing issues, product events, formulation challenges, and raw material-related concerns. 

Experience designing, executing, and interpreting stability studies associated with packaging changes and product maintenance initiatives. 

Proficient in using statistical and scientific data analysis tools 

Effective written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of technical reports, investigations, protocols, specifications, and presentations.

Experience:  Minimum is 5+ years of years of experience in nutritional beverage, food, or dietary supplement product development, reformulation, and manufacturing support within a cGMP environment. 

Proficient in Microsoft Office and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific field.
