Job Summary
The Health Research and Analytics (HRA) business line is seeking a highly motivated, full-time Performance Dietitian to join our team in support of our government customer, U.S. Special Operations Command. This position will play a critical role in advancing the Preservation of the Forces and Family (POTFF) program, which is dedicated to optimizing and sustaining the mission readiness, longevity, and performance of Special Operations Forces (SOF). Through integrated and holistic human performance initiatives, POTFF strengthens both the Forces and their families, ensuring comprehensive support for those who serve. As a Performance Dietitian, you will contribute to impactful research and analytics that drive evidence-based decision-making and enhance the effectiveness of these vital programs. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of SOF personnel and their families while working in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
This position provides expert guidance and counseling on nutritional practices to enhance recovery and optimize performance for SOF personnel, prioritizing evidence-based nutritional planning, counseling, and documentation. This role encompasses both administrative and clinical duties, including designing and implementing performance nutrition programs, developing rehabilitation protocols, maintaining records, and ensuring the availability of educational materials and supplies. This Performance Dietitian will collaborate with the HP program team, advise leadership on nutrition issues, participate in staff training and meetings, and document care in military health records, supporting the overall mission of the POTFF HP program.
Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and counseling on nutritional practices to enhance recovery and optimize performance for SOF personnel, with priority on SOF Operators and Direct Combat Support personnel
  • Perform administrative and clinical duties within their scope of practice
  • Provide and perform the following services in support of POTFF's HP program for SOF personnel, with priority on SOF Operators and Direct Combat Support personnel:
    • Provide nutritional planning, counseling, and documentation guided by evidence-based peer-reviewed literature
    • Advise the chain of command on issues pertinent to nutrition and performance nutrition
    • Provide individual and group counseling for guidance on performance nutrition
    • Design and implement performance nutrition programs for SOF personnel in garrison, TAD/TDY, and deployed settings
    • Develop nutritional protocols and guidelines for rehabilitation and performance
    • Collaborate with the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator for implementation of new protocols and guidelines
    • Assist other regional SOF assets as required by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator and approved by the chain of command
    • Attend and participate in meetings with other POTFF staff members and medical personnel as requested and/or required
    • Ensure that adequate educational materials and sports nutrition specific supplies are available
    • Assist with supply inventories and provide input on supply needs
    • Ensure equipment and facilities under the purview of the Performance Dietitian are in safe working condition and are properly utilized
    • Ensure records are updated as required
    • Participate in periodic in-service training for members of the HP Staff and attend required training in accordance with guiding instructions
    • Perform administrative duties, which may include maintaining records of workload, participating in education programs, and participating in clinical staff quality assurance functions
    • Participate in peer record reviews as directed and required
    • Develop and promulgate training materials as requested and required by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator
    • Perform other tasks as assigned by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator
    • Document care in the Military's Electronic Health Record, e.g., AHLTA, GENESIS and/or the HP Enterprise-wide database, i.e., SPEAR, as directed by HP program Manager and/or Coordinator and required by USSOCOM HQ and POTFF staff
    • Collect and report all data as requested by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator and required by USSOCOM HQ and its POTFF staff
    • Proficiently utilize computers, software, and technologies as required and requested by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator, USSOCOM HQ and POTFF staff

Key Qualifications
  • Master's level degree in Nutrition Science or related field
  • Current certification from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) as a Registered Dietitian (RD) and a specialty certification as a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). CSSD certification may be waived if all other qualifications are met; however, the contractor shall earn the CSSD within six months of employment if waived
  • At least three years of demonstrable accumulated experience (continuous and sustained experience preferred) as a Performance Dietitian with individual athletes and groups of athletes at the levels of NCAA Collegiate, Olympic, professional sports, and/or SOF Operators in the accompanying, respective settings
  • Capable of meeting physical demands of training with SOF including the ability to hike over rough terrain and function in austere environments to observe SOF training evolutions and the ability to assist with strength and conditioning testing and training protocols.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate loads and weights up to 25 kilograms
  • May be required to receive and maintain clinical practice privileges
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) from the American Heart Association, with documentation provided
  • Current and valid state certification/licensure
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance

  • Certification as a Certified Strength and conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
