Job description

Associate Veterinarian - Integrative Medicine

Washington, DC

Friendship Hospital for Animals (FHA) is a large, full-service veterinary hospital providing specialty, emergency, and primary care for pets. Our team includes board-certified specialists in surgery, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, cardiology, dermatology, and more. Alongside these specialty services, our hospital is committed to providing high-quality primary and integrative care — combining traditional veterinary medicine with complementary therapies when appropriate.

Position Summary We are hiring a full-time Integrative Veterinary Medicine Doctor to provide compassionate, holistic care for our general and integrative patients. You will deliver routine wellness and preventive care while also offering integrative modalities — nutrition, rehab, acupuncture, and more — for patients and families seeking a whole-pet approach. We prioritize a joint approach to patient care, collaborating heavily with our primary care and rehabilitation teams.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat pets for routine wellness care, illness, and injury.
  • Develop and manage individualized treatment plans combining conventional medicine and integrative therapies (nutrition, physical rehab, acupuncture, etc.).
  • Perform routine procedures (vaccinations, wellness visits, diagnostics, follow-ups) and integrative follow-up care.
  • Collaborate with specialists and hospital staff to coordinate care when needed.
  • Provide client education on preventive health, nutrition, lifestyle, and wellness.
  • Maintain clear, compassionate, and timely client communication.
  • Document all patient interactions and treatments thoroughly in medical records.

Why Join Us?

Collaborative Environment: Work alongside a team of experienced veterinary specialists and support staff dedicated to providing the highest quality of care. Our collaborative approach ensures comprehensive treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs.

Work with Rotating Interns: At Friendship Hospital for Animals, you will have the opportunity to mentor and collaborate with our small animal rotating interns. This program allows for a dynamic exchange of knowledge and expertise, fostering a rich learning environment for both interns and seasoned professionals.

Living in the DC Area: Located in the vibrant Washington, DC area, our hospital offers the perfect blend of professional opportunity and quality of life. Enjoy world-class cultural attractions, diverse dining options, beautiful parks, and a dynamic community. The DC area provides excellent educational institutions and a wide range of recreational activities, making it an ideal place for families and individuals.

Commitment to Excellence: At Friendship Hospital for Animals, we prioritize continuous learning and professional development. We support our team members with ongoing education and training opportunities to stay at the forefront of veterinary oncology.

State-of-the-Art Facilities: Our hospital is equipped with the latest technology and modern amenities, providing a comfortable and efficient workspace for our team. Our ongoing commitment to investing in the best tools for our staff and patients ensures we maintain the highest standards of care.

Qualifications & Expectations

  • Veterinary degree from an AVMA-accredited program
  • Comfort with and interest in integrative/holistic modalities — or willingness to learn and grow in this area
  • Strong communication skills and a client-focused, team-oriented mindset
  • Ability to manage a mixed caseload (wellness, sick-visits, integrative care) in a fast-paced hospital environment
  • Commitment to compassionate, high-quality, individualized patient care and client education

Be Part of EVG Specialty Network: Joining Friendship Hospital for Animals means being part of the esteemed EVG Specialty Network (evgspecialty.com). Benefit from the collective expertise and resources of a network dedicated to advancing veterinary care. Enjoy access to continuing education, collaboration opportunities, and the support of a community committed to excellence in veterinary medicine.
