Position Summary
The WIC Certifier II is responsible for determining WIC eligibility, scheduling potential participants and enrolling when qualified. This position is responsible for mentoring WIC Certifier I staff members through their first year of employment. External contacts include patients, families, physicians, community members and outside organizations and agencies.
Responsibilities:
- Communicates in person and remotely with participants in a sensitive manner regarding lifestyle, medical history, nutritional practices
- Evaluates income and health risks to determine participant program eligibility
- Uses participant-centered techniques to provide personalized nutrition education/referrals and to educate pregnant women on how to initiate and sustain breastfeeding and to help breastfeeding clients solve common breastfeeding problems
- Assesses participants' health and nutrition status using Washington State WIC Assessment Questions
- Utilizes motivational interviewing techniques
- Mentors and guides new Certifier I team members
- Assists Supervisors with staff training or leading department meetings
- This position may be assigned special projects to increase agency growth, community knowledge or outreach
- Incumbent may be required to work in any MBWIC clinic location in Pierce County or participate in local outreach events
Requirements:
- Internal promotional position only, promoted from Certifier I
- Must be recognized as a Competent Professional Authority by Washington State Department of Health WIC for at least one (1) year
- High school diploma or GED
- Associate degree, OR two (2) years' experience in healthcare, health or nutrition education, public health, or community outreach
- Bi-lingual preferred but not necessary (Spanish/English or Russian/English)

Pay and Benefit Expectations
We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $24.83 - $35.71 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant's years of experience align.
