Job description

TYPE OF POSITION:
240-day contract
Non-Rep Exempt

REPORTS TO:
Nutrition Services Supervisor

SUPERVISION:
None

SALARY:
$26.00-$32.00/hr depending on experience and qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Science; preferred in nutrition, dietetics, or related
Minnesota Certified Food Protection Manager License or ability to obtain in 6 months
Strong knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Program regulations and state/federal compliance requirements
Knowledge of sanitation and safety practices related to cooking and serving food
Organizational and coordinating skills related to program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of population groups




PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

2-5 years' experience in school nutrition services
Experience with recipe development and nutrition analysis software
Proficiency with menu software, ordering systems, and Microsoft Excel

POSITION SUMMARY:
Plans the food service menu including recipe and menu development, food preparation and testing of new menu items following USDA guidelines, and with an eye on quality and cost control, of the district's nutritional services program. Also creates operational efficiencies, program policy compliance, and conducts a review of daily food service operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


Creates a culinary strategy, development of new menus and recipes in accordance with nutritional standards and student feedback, market trends, and sales.
Develops and manages nutritional analysis for compliance with USDA requirements for all nutrition programs. This includes the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program, Summer Food Service Program, and Preschool Program while meeting high standards of nutrition
Organize Child Nutrition labeling and Product Formulation Statements for all food items served
Maintains the district online menu to ensure accuracy
Assists with developing special diet menus needed with nutrition staff, health staff, students and parents per state and federal guidelines
Manages the creation of new products as requested by Nutrition Services Supervisor
Creates standardized recipes which meet dietary guidelines and student appeal
Coordinates and oversees testing of new products and recipes and follow through with marketing products to students
Monitor production records for accuracy at all sites
Provide support in the kitchens to ensure consistency in operations
Provide support and training to staff on nutrition software systems
Assists in coordinating the ordering, receiving, and distribution of USDA Commodity Foods and utilization of commodities in managing food costs with cycle menus
Utilizes food cost and sales to evaluate current menu items and needs, minimizes food costs and prices in response to the marketplace and student needs
Assist in management of food costs, and costing of food products
Oversees food inventory, monitors food and supply levels
Assist in planning and conducting staff meetings and staff development following USDA policies and requirements
Assist in training staff on food preparation techniques, best practices and develops strategies for improvement
Works with vendors for substitutions as needed
Ensure that the menus reflect our diverse student population and we are exposing students to a global cuisine.
Encourage and represents a positive relationship between St. Cloud Area School District 742 and the community by demonstrating professionalism, courtesy, and respect when interacting with students, staff, parents, and customers.
Assists with management of social media platforms
Perform other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as directed.

Read, write, and, interpret standardized recipes
Maintain confidentiality of Nutritional Services information
Using various learning methods to ensure thorough training and development of staff including but not limited to public presentations, computer generated materials, and hands on demonstrations
Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines related to food safety, security, sanitation, special diets and allergens, USDA program regulations, and HACCP guidelines
Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands
Ability to track, file, and maintain records of tastings, food items, and recipe development
Actively fosters collaborative relationships and working environments within kitchens and across the district.
Interpret data and information effectively to make sound business decisions
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages; application of basic algebra and geometry concepts
Methods and procedures for institutional food preparation and inventory control
Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software
Knowledge of food production and safe use of equipment
Knowledge of recipe costing, sizing, and nutrient analysis
Knowledge of nutrition principles and large scale food production quality execution techniques
