Job description

UR Thompson Health is seeking a professionally mature, energetic, and creative individual who demonstrates leadership qualities demanded in the rapidly changing health care environment. Join our team as a Nurse Manager in the Operating Room! 

Full time - Primarily Days - Off shift and weekend management responsibilities required

Main Function:

  • Assists the OR Director in the daily management of the OR
  • Participates in annual staff evaluations 
  • Clinically supports the 6 ORs, including acting as the Charge nurse when needed
  • Supervises the day to day operations including coordination and communication with the Ambulatory Procedure Center, PACU, surgeons and anesthesia teams
  • Provides operational and clinical management oversight for the Operating Room
  • Along with the Director, has responsibility, authority and accountability for the clinical, financial and personnel management of the Operating Room on a 24-hour basis
  • Leads the unit in a goal directed manner, which is congruent with the nursing service, hospital and system goals and philosophies
  • Works closely with the Nursing Director and VP of Patient Care Services/ in assuring and meeting the strategic imperatives for the unit and hospital
  • Excellent customer service and clinical quality are articulated and formulated into operational plans and monitoring of outcomes
  • Responsible for fostering interdisciplinary collaborative relationships with the OR and surgical services team and the institution as a whole

Required Job Specific Competencies:

  • Professionally mature, energetic, and creative individual who demonstrates leadership qualities demanded in the rapidly changing health care environment
  • Possesses an expertise in acute care with additional knowledge base in management theory and practice
  • Previous demonstrated success in managing daily operations, budget, and personnel responsibilities is preferred
  • A willingness to learn, to take risks, and pursue excellence is necessary
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strength in public speaking, and formal presentation skills
  • Additionally, a thorough knowledge of practice and technology to enhance practice is required
  • The Nurse Manager must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide administrative guidance and consultation to his or her Associates
  • Lives the CARES values at all times

Qualifications:

  • New York State license as a Registered Nurse
  • Mature, energetic, and creative individual who demonstrates leadership qualities. Achieves growing expertise to promote unit
  • National certification in relevant clinical specialty or nursing administration will be required within one year of eligibility

Education:

  • BSN required, MSN preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience with evidence of career advancement and progressive increase in responsibilities within the healthcare environment is essential
  • Recent clinical/leadership experience in the specialty area preferred
