Nursing Lab Technician
Salary: $46.00 per hour
I. Position Purpose
The Nursing Laboratory Technician responsibilities include the following: coordinating and maintaining all nursing skills lab evaluations, including inventory management, and assisting students and faculty as needed to improve student assessment skills and performance of clinical nursing skills; scheduling and covering open labs and assisting with simulations as needed.
II. Duties and Responsibilities
• Identify, recruit and tour clinical agency student placement sites.
• Supervise and evaluate faculty providing clinical instruction.
• Visit clinical sites while instructors are working and evaluate instructors and sites.
• Responsible for maintaining documents and files for ACEN and OBN reports and maintaining confidentiality of all student records.
• Collaborate with the Simulation Lab Manager to provide simulation experiences.
• To be trained in operation of the Simulation Lab.
• Oversee the functioning and scheduling of all Basic Nursing Skills Labs and assist in the High-Fidelity Simulation Nursing Lab.
• Collaborate with faculty to provide for consistent and relevant student learning experiences to meet course and clinical objectives in the nursing skills labs.
• Assist faculty with skills and simulation activities and in establishing and revising the critical elements for performing clinical skills.
• Ensure supervision of students in the lab, maintaining safe practices and abiding by all established policies and procedures for the lab.
• Contribute to the evaluation of students during skills and simulation activities as well as on other occasions by request i.e. exit prescription skills performance practice and review.
• Provide assistance to students upon faculty referral for remediation.
• Maintain a policies and procedures manual for the labs and Clinical.
• May be assigned to a lab if needed.
• Other duties as required by the appropriate administrator.
III. Qualifications - Education, Experience, and Skills
• BSN degree required. MSN preferred.
• 2 years of direct patient nursing experience.
• Experience working in a Nursing program skills lab and assisting with skills checkoffs and meeting course objectives.
• Prior teaching experience preferred.
• Strong Microsoft office skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Time management and organizational skills.
• Manage multiple tasks and set priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.
• Ability to act in confidence.
• Knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA.
