Job description

Material Handling Specialist

Moving raw and finished materials by use of motorized forklift and manual hand trucks. Performs all scrap removal functions from all the press lines. Scans all materials to proper storage and production locations. Assists in die set-up activities as time allows.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must be certified on a forklift and or be willing to take the appropriate training to be certified.
  • Perform scrap removal from press to dump in an outside dumpster / container.
  • Perform manual work having to do with the handling of totes and containers.
  • On occasion, will assist the moving of coils of steel, as well as loading and unloading stamping tools from the press lines.
  • Handle and transport materials, parts, and supplies between or within departments.
  • Unload trucks, weigh count, and store raw materials or components.
  • Performs material handling work directly related to production operations such as production lines, presses, load, and unload racks for plating and / or finishing operations.
  • May be aided in work with the use of manually operated dolly, pull carts or powered forklifts.
  • Learn and perform all functions in relation to current QAD Inventory system.
  • Performs proper PM checks on forklift assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Forklift license / Training required
  • Must be able to use hand tools
  • Must be overhead crane certified.

Required Safety Equipment

  • Cut resistance gloves (when manually moving or handling materials)
  • Safety Glasses
  • Earplugs or Muffs
  • Metatarsal Steel Toe shoes

Educational skills required

High school diploma or GED preferred

Training required

Must complete Forklift Certification

Must complete Overhead Crane Training

Physical Job Requirements – ALL jobs

  • Must be able to sit, reach above shoulders, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs on a consistent basis
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed, 10 hour or 12 hour shifts (Up to 7 days a week).
  • Must be able to stand 10 - 12 hours a day
  • Must have physical dexterity
