Job Description:
The Craft Recruiter is responsible for partnering with the Director of Talent to develop and execute strategies that attract top-tier construction craft talent, including both union and non-union professionals, across the Veit Enterprise. This position manages full-cycle recruitment activities, including sourcing, screening, selecting, and hiring for roles such as drivers, welders, diesel technicians, foremen, superintendents, general superintendents, and other key positions as needed. In addition, the Craft Recruiter actively engages in trade union, school, and community events, supports diversity, equity, and inclusion recruitment initiatives, and assists with the administration and implementation of HR policies and programs.
A Day in the Life
  • Manage the complete recruitment process for construction craft roles, including drafting job advertisements, reviewing resumes, conducting phone interviews, and issuing employment offers via the applicant tracking system.

  • Works collaboratively and cultivates a positive relationship with field leaders and department managers to gain insight into the skills and competencies required for various positions. Continually enhances knowledge of departmental hiring needs and establishes a robust network across all service lines.

  • Stays active with current job boards, trade partners, industry associations, social networks, and platforms to find talent, working to always maintain a talent pipeline.

  • Communicate job requirements, expectations, and company culture expectations to candidates, ensuring clarity and understanding for all parties involved, and addressing any inquiries in a professional, timely manner.

  • Conducts or acquires background checks, reference checks and employment eligibility verifications.

  • Attend high school and trade union career fairs and other local networking opportunities near project sites to build a strong pipeline of qualified candidates; regional travel may be required to support recruitment and hiring efforts and promote company presence in key markets.

  • Provides ongoing support for our partnerships with schools/institutions to further develop a talent pool to pull from.

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date recruitment records and details in the ATS system in accordance with all federal and state regulations.

  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes in talent management and employment law.

  • Actively participates in creating efficiencies and improving internal processes.

  • Participates in HR projects and audits as needed.

  • Other projects or duties as assigned by management.

What You'll Need
  • Three years of full-cycle recruitment experience including screening, prospecting, qualifying, interviewing, and managing candidates throughout interview process. Construction industry field experience may be considered in lieu of recruitment experience.

  • Working knowledge of applicant tracking systems, Workday preferred.

  • Union partnership and recruiting experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations, or ability to learn.

  • Demonstrated time-management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines while working under pressure. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, with ability to build trust and credibility. Ability to maintain integrity, positivity, professionalism, and confidentiality. Strong ability to sell Veit as an employer of choice.

  • Ability to maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

  • Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities. Ability to be persistent and push through challenges and adversity.

  • Must be able to work 8-hour workdays, Monday through Friday with flexibility to attend occasional weekend events.
  • This position is based on-site in New Berlin, WI. Remote work may be available 1-2 days per week after completing the training.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Regular local travel required, plus overnight stays for out-of-town interviews, career fairs, and industry association meetings/conferences (50%+).
