Job description

Senior Commercial Roofing Estimator

West Chicago, IL
$100,000–$140,000 Base + Excellent Benefits + Potential Ownership Opportunity
Relocation Available

Are you an experienced Commercial Roofing Estimator looking for a company where you can settle in, be valued for what you know, and have a genuine long-term future?

We're working with a well-established, privately owned union commercial roofing contractor in West Chicago that is looking to add an experienced Senior Estimator to its team.

This is a smaller, close-knit company with a strong reputation for tackling complex commercial, industrial, institutional, and government roofing projects throughout the Chicago market. They aren't looking to become another large corporate roofing operation. They have built their business around quality work, strong relationships, and experienced people who stay.

They're looking ahead and want to bring in someone who can become an important part of the company's next chapter.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll be responsible for estimating commercial roofing projects from initial review through bid submission, including:

  • Reviewing plans, specifications, and bid documents

  • Completing takeoffs and preparing accurate estimates

  • Estimating TPO, EPDM, PVC, modified bitumen, BUR, and other commercial roofing systems

  • Attending site visits and pre-bid meetings

  • Working with suppliers and subcontractors on pricing

  • Identifying project requirements, logistics, and potential challenges

  • Working closely with project managers, field operations, and ownership

  • Supporting project handoff once work is awarded

Their projects include universities, government facilities, libraries, manufacturing plants, food production facilities, research facilities, and other technically demanding commercial environments.

If you enjoy taking projects beyond estimating and managing your own work through completion, they're open to that as well—but you do not need to be an Estimator/PM.

What They're Looking For

We're looking for someone who knows commercial roofing and takes pride in putting together a solid estimate.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • 5+ years of commercial roofing estimating experience

  • Strong knowledge of low-slope commercial roofing systems

  • Experience with TPO, EPDM, PVC, modified bitumen and/or BUR

  • Ability to read plans, specifications, and scopes

  • Experience with commercial, industrial, institutional, or government projects

  • Strong communication and attention to detail

  • A collaborative approach and willingness to work closely with a smaller team

Union roofing experience is a plus, but not required.

They currently use The EDGE, but EDGE experience is not required. If you're a strong roofing estimator, they'll train you on the software.

Why This One Is Different

$100,000–$140,000 base salary
100% company-paid health insurance
Health deductible reimbursement program
5% employer 401(k) contribution—even if you contribute nothing
Additional compensation opportunities
Potential path to employee ownership
Relocation available for the right candidate

The ownership opportunity is particularly interesting.

There are currently seven employee-owners, and several senior partners will be transitioning toward retirement over the coming years. Someone joining the business now has an opportunity to establish themselves as part of that next generation of leadership and potentially participate in ownership down the road.

Looking for Your Long-Term Home?

If you've spent years building your commercial roofing experience and you're at the point where stability, good people, challenging projects, and having a future with the company matter, this is worth a conversation.

You don't have to be actively looking.

If you're a strong commercial roofing estimator who would consider the right long-term opportunity in the Chicago market, I'd be happy to tell you more.

Out-of-state candidates are welcome. Relocation will be considered for the right person.

For quick consideration, email me confidentially at kkipp@talentsphere.ca.
