Job Specifications

Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. 2+ years rigging and Versa lift experience preferred.

Supervisory responsibilities will include overseeing the field crew and taking the lead in ensuring safety is number one and taking responsibility for job completion. They will also communicate with office staff for scheduling and progress purposes.

Landwehr Construction, Inc. is a diverse construction company focusing on areas including, but not limited to, crane & rigging, demolition, environmental remediation, highway heavy, machinery moving, renewable energy, sitework & utilities, and wetland specialty. Landwehr Construction, Inc. employs both union and non-union staff and works primarily in the Midwest region.

Job Environment: This position will be a union role and dispatched out of the St. Cloud office. Most of the work is performed outdoors. Job site locations as well as start and end times vary based upon customer demand.

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to operate all models of mobile, telescopic, truck mounted/boom truck, rough terrain, and crawler cranes.
  • Basic knowledge of rigging procedures to ensure safety during heavy lifts.
  • Strong understanding of crane functions and limitations, assembly and disassembly procedures.
  • Observe load hookup to determine safety of load.
  • Assembles rigging to safely lift and move equipment or material.
  • Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
  • Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains, to crane hook. Gives directions to Crane Operator engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled, using hand signals, or radio while guiding crane operators as objects are being moved and set into place.
  • Must know where to attach the hooks, chains, and cables to lift a load safely.
  • Visually inspect rigging to ensure safety and reliability by checking tag for current inspection date.
  • Dismantle, account for, and properly store rigging equipment after job.
  • Make sure all safety requirements are always met.
  • Maintain clean company equipment surfaces and component parts. i.e., crane, or equipment. Performing routine maintenance and repairs on equipment.
  • Lubricates moving parts of heavy equipment.
  • Changes oil in machine reservoirs; cleans and replaces oil filters as needed.
  • Ensures that automatic lubrication equipment operates correctly.
  • Fills automatic dispensers, oil cans, and oil cups.
  • Completes logs, reports, or other documentation related to the installation, replacement, modification, or changing of machine parts and attachments.
  • Removes superfluous oil and grease from machinery, tools, and floor.
  • Complies with applicable federal, state, and company laws, regulations, and guidelines regarding health, safety, and environmental protection.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Willingness to travel overnight at times.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push or pull 80 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Prolonged periods standing, crouching, bending, climbing, stooping, reaching, twisting, pushing, and pulling to perform job.
  • Ability to exert yourself physically on a continuous basis throughout shift.
  • Mental and physical dexterity to make quick, repeated movements and decisions.
