Job Summary:

The on-call substitute teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and classroom continuity in the absence of regular faculty. This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment. The position works across various grade levels and subjects while modeling respect, professionalism, and cultural competency in all interactions.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Delivers lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular teacher.
  • Provides instruction and support to students in various grade levels and subjects.
  • Assumes the regular teacher's daily duties such as supervising students during recess, lunch, or dismissal to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the school day.
  • Maintains a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Adapts teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Monitors student behavior and enforce classroom rules and policies.
  • Collaborates with other teachers and staff members to ensure continuity of instruction.
  • Upholds and models the mission, values, and strategic priorities of STS.
  • Demonstrates respect for diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion.
  • Adheres to school policies and procedures and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field; master's degree or teaching certification preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience teaching preschool, elementary/lower school, or middle school students.
  • Ability to actively supervise students both indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to meet the demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds and engaging in activities such as bending, crouching, or sitting on the ground.
  • Readiness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification, and maintain throughout employment
  • Successful completion of required background checks in accordance with school policy and state regulations.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, flexible, and growth-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency with basic technology tools and a willingness to learn school-specific systems.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and community of STS.
