You'll likely start with responsibilities such as reviewing patient records for completeness, learning to code diagnoses and procedures, and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations. Expect regular collaboration with other health information professionals, medical staff, and sometimes IT specialists, all while developing your proficiency with relevant software. Many employers offer mentorship or job-shadowing opportunities to help you build confidence as you transition into your role. This initial period is essential for building your skills and laying the groundwork for future advancement in health information management.
