Classification: Non-Exempt | Full-Time & Part-Time | Civilian Public Safety Support RoleRole Purpose and Mission
The Hospitalization Safety Officer is a civilian, unarmed safety professional assigned to provide continuous custody observation, safety oversight, and environmental control for incarcerated individuals receiving medical treatment at Northside Gwinnett Hospital.
This role ensures the safety of hospital staff, patients, visitors, and the public while preserving custody integrity and dignity for individuals under medical care. Officers operate in a high-visibility, high-responsibility environment requiring situational awareness, emotional intelligence, discretion, and strict adherence to policy. This position is not sworn and carries no law enforcement authority.Scope of Authority
  • Serve as civilian safety personnel with limited custodial responsibility
  • Responsibilities strictly include observation, reporting, access control, and safety presence
  • No arrests, investigations, or discretionary enforcement actions
  • Escalate incidents to law enforcement or supervisory personnel as required
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Custody Observation and Inmate Safety
  • Maintain uninterrupted visual observation of assigned inmate patients
  • Ensure custody integrity during medical treatment, hospital movement, and room transitions
  • Immediately report custody concerns, safety risks, or compliance issues

Hospital Safety and Environmental Control
  • Control access to inmate treatment rooms and surrounding areas
  • Prevent unauthorized contact or interference with inmate patients
  • Maintain awareness of hospital activity and visitor movement

Professional Conduct and Compliance
  • Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality, and ethical conduct
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policy
  • Demonstrate emotional regulation, restraint, and sound judgment under pressure
  • Maintain professional appearance, grooming, posture, and demeanor
  • Comply fully with all Valor Protection Safety Agency policies and procedures

Shift Coverage and Operational Readiness
  • Maintain availability for rotating shifts including:
    • 11 PM - 7 AM
    • 7 AM - 3 PM
    • 3 PM - 11 PM
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • At least 2 years' experience in security, corrections, hospital security, military, or high-accountability safety roles
  • Valid government-issued ID and Social Security card or birth certificate
  • Ability to pass local, state, and national background investigations
  • Successful completion of fingerprinting and drug screening
  • Medical physical clearance confirming fitness for duty
  • Ability to complete required pre-service and ongoing training
  • Strong verbal communication skills and emotional intelligence
