Description
City of Forney is looking for a Building Inspector to join our team! If you have experience, enjoy being out in the field, and have an eye for detail, this could be a great fit.
In this role, you'll perform safety and building inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and local ordinances, provide guidance and direction regarding conformity to building codes and ordinances, and respond to departmental and public complaints.
Examples of Duties
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
  • Performs commercial and residential safety and building inspections; examines properties and building sites to determine compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Inspects new and existing building installations of any size or height, such as office buildings, manufacturing plants, health care facilities, and retail stores, to determine that installations conform with approved plans and/or applicable codes and ordinances.
  • Contacts contractors and citizens regarding violations and establishes terms of compliance; determines appropriate means of code enforcement, including issuance of citations; completes inspection reports and inputs them into the department database.
  • Maintains inspection and enforcement records; researches permit records, building codes, and ordinances; contacts customers to respond to complaints, enforce codes, and investigate compliance.
  • Performs administrative tasks and trains new employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: No direct supervision exercised; may exercise occasional administrative and functional supervision for specified activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience in building inspection, code enforcement, or equivalent.

Special Requirements: Possess a valid Texas Board of Plumbing Examiners certification and a ICC residential plumbing certification within one (1) year of hire.

Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS)

TMRS is a qualified tax deferred retirement plan under Section 401 of the IRS. Seven percent of gross earnings are deducted each payroll as a pre-tax deduction and deposited into the member account. When an employee becomes vested and retires, the city provides 2-to-1 matching contributions.
