Advertising Summary: The Agricultural Science Center (ASC) in Artesia, New Mexico, invites you to apply for the position of Mgr, Farm Ranch. ASC Artesia's mission is to enhance the agricultural, economic, environmental, and social well-being of southeastern New Mexico.

Target Hourly/Salary Rate: Minimum $53,165.80 to commensurate with qualifications
Appointment Full-time Equivalency: 1.0
FLSA Status: Exempt
Bargaining Unit Announcement: This is NOT a bargaining unit position with American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME).
Contingent Upon Funding: Not Applicable
Standard Work Schedule: Shift: Other Shift
If Not a Standard Work Schedule: May work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Job Duties and Responsibilities: ***THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN ARTESIA, NM***
The overall purpose of the position is to maximize the efficiency of ASC-Artesia and its land and lab resources to accomplish its research mission for NMSU and the clientele it serves. A Farm Ranch Manger will educate, train, and supervise farm laborers properly in the requirements of field and lab research. Investigate, order, and repair, research equipment and instruments as well as general farm equipment. Coordinate with researchers from the main NMSU campus and other Science Centers who desire or need to carry out research at ASC-Artesia. Operate farm vehicles such as UTV's, NMSU trucks, and/or tractors to haul equipment, debris, etc. around the center grounds, which will require a valid driver's license to obtain an NMSU Driver's Permit. Purchase and administer herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, etc. Public Applicator's License and Paraquat Handler Certificate will need to be obtained within 6 months of hire which will be coordinated by supervisor.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:Associate's Degree + 4 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree + 2 years of relevant experience.
Equivalent Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:5 years of direct experience with farm equipment, farm operations and farm management with supervision of farm laborers.
Special Certification/Licensure:- Valid Driver's License to be able to obtain an NMSU Driver's Permit
- To BE OBTAINED WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF HIRE:
- Public Applicator's License - Yearly Renewal
- Certificate "How To Safely Use and Handle Paraquat - Containing Products"
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Environment: Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements: i.e. extreme temp, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, other potentially dangerous materials/situations that require safety precaution/protective equip
Physical Effort: Considerable physical activity. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
Lifting Requirements: Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
Risk: Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
