Job description
Job Description: This is a full-time position that reports to the Athletic Director. Responsibilities include recruiting, coordinating practices, training student athletes, and other tasks. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. The primary responsibilities of the Head Men’s basketball coach include coaching the team during practices and games, team and travel supervision, and recruiting. The employee must be able to relate effectively with a wide variety of students and individuals in the College community. The College expects this individual to accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner and to strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations of the NJCAA and NJCAA Region II as they relate to the Men’s Basketball Program Including Completion of all paperwork, athletic eligibility reports and reports of team statistics.
- Responsible for coordinating student-athlete recruitment activities for the Men’s Basketball team, including, but not limited to, tracking the admissions and eligibility process involving recruited student-athletes.
- Responsible for the preparation and training of the team; which includes providing supervision and leadership for both practices and competitive activities.
- Organizes, supervises, coordinates, and evaluates practice sessions and related activities with proper attention to the player's mental, emotional, social and physical well-being.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to the physical injury of any athlete and coordinates care of the athlete with the Athletic Trainer
- Provides an example of competitive but sportsmanlike conduct and is an ambassador for SEARK College on and off the court.
- Deals fairly and honestly with all people concerned with sports.
- Maintains strong supportive relationships with student athletes and their families.
- Provides direction and assistance to student-athletes in achieving their academic, athletic, and personal goals. Responsible for monitoring and supporting the student-athlete’s academic progress through monitoring study hall hours, obtaining feedback from faculty, and promoting graduation.
- Represents the College at regional meetings, scheduling meetings, and business meetings related to NJCAA activities.
- Schedules all games with the approval and consent of the Athletic Director
- Coordinates travel arrangements for the team assuring that student and staff safety is top priority and that prudent cost-saving measures are considered.
- Coordinates with the budget specialist and/or business office in a timely manner, to ensure all travel requests, travel arrangements and sports purchases are pre-approved and in compliance with state of Arkansas and College travel and procurement policies.
- Accompany and supervise the team on all travel.
- Maintain equipment and facilities related to the Men’s basketball program.
- Provide timely publicity and schedule updates to the Director of Marketing.
- Develop and participate in fundraising activities for the Athletic Department.
- Participate in all SEARK athletic committee meetings, SEARK professional development and other staff meetings when requested, as well as mandatory coaches’ meetings held by Region II and the NJCAA national office.
- Coordinate all aspects of the Men’s Basketball program budget with the Athletic Director in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Participate in the annual athletic recognition program.
- Submit a mid-year and end-of-year program summary to the Athletic Director
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Three (3) years of experience in a position that requires coaching high school or intercollegiate baseball
Ability to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) class C with P (passenger) endorsement within 3 months of date of hire.
Familiarity with college policies regarding athletics and NJCAA rules and regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree
2 years previous Head Coaching Experience for Men’s basketball at Collegiate Level
- Valid Commercial driver’s license (CDL) class C with P (passenger) endorsement
OTHER JOB-RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON THE APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
