Summary of Job Duties:
The Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) Registered Nurse plays a vital role in promoting a safe, therapeutic environment across the UAMS main campus. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care for patients, family members, and visitors experiencing disruptive or escalated behaviors.
The BERT RN provides clinical leadership through the coordination and oversight of the Behavioral Emergency Response Team, utilizing expert knowledge in de-escalation strategies, behavioral health resources, and organizational policies. This role supports both patients and healthcare staff by guiding appropriate interventions and fostering a collaborative, patient-centered approach to behavioral care.
Key responsibilities include assessing and evaluating the use of restraints and patient observers to ensure appropriate utilization and compliance with regulatory standards; facilitating interdisciplinary Behavioral Care Huddles to align care strategies; and promoting adherence to UAMS policies and procedures.
The BERT RN practices in accordance with the Arkansas Nurse Practice Act and serves as a subject matter expert and resource for managing complex behavioral situations, contributing to a culture of safety, respect, and clinical excellence.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program with Bachelor's Degree or higher in nursing or other health related field
  • Valid RN licensure in state of Arkansas
  • >5 years in nursing experience
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to manage conflict in a variety of situations
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Advanced communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in Medical Record System
  • Experience in Clinical Documentation
  • Experience in Behavioral De-escalation
  • Experience in Teaching
  • Experience in Med-Surg, Critical Care or ED
  • Mental Health background with inpatient psychiatric populations
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current experience in acute care population or psychiatric population in an academic medical center.
  • Knowledge in Epic Medical Record System
  • Experience with Microsoft, PowerPoint, Forms, Box
