Summary of Job Duties:
This position is located at the UAMS Health Benton/Bryant location and may be used to fill multiple positions.
The Cardiac Catheterization Lab Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures within a heart hospital setting. This position assesses and prepares patients for procedures, monitors cardiac and hemodynamic status, administers medications and sedation as appropriate, and provides nursing interventions throughout the procedural and recovery phases. The RN works collaboratively with cardiologists and the interdisciplinary cardiovascular team to provide safe, efficient, and high-quality care to patients with complex cardiovascular conditions.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate Degree, ADN Degree, or Diploma RN. Major: Registered Nurse
  • RN with a minimum of 1 year of RN experience
  • Valid Arkansas Registered Nursing License

Special knowledge, abilities and skills:
  • Ability to perform point of care testing, draw and collect blood specimens and prepare for laboratory processing.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Pediatric experience a plus.
  • BLS (CPR) Certification.
  • A minimum of 1 year phlebotomy and RN experience
  • Two years of experience in an ambulatory care setting

Responsibilities:
  • Provides specialized nursing care before, during, and after cardiac catheterization and other cardiovascular procedures, including patient assessment, preparation, monitoring, and recovery.
  • Monitors cardiac rhythm, hemodynamic status, vital signs, oxygenation, and overall patient condition and promptly recognizes and responds to changes, complications, or cardiovascular emergencies.
  • Administers medications, IV therapies, and moderate sedation as appropriate and monitors patient response in accordance with provider orders, established protocols, and nursing standards.
  • Assists cardiologists and other members of the cardiovascular team during diagnostic and interventional procedures, supporting patient safety and efficient procedural workflow.
  • Responds to emergency situations and changes in patient condition, initiating appropriate nursing interventions and participating in resuscitative measures as necessary.
  • Provides education to patients and families regarding cardiovascular procedures, medications, recovery expectations, activity restrictions, risk-factor modification, and follow-up care.
  • Documents assessments, medications, interventions, procedural care, and patient outcomes and collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team to support continuity, quality, and safety of patient care.
