This is an Exercise Physiologist III role.
  • 4 years' health care related experience with minimum of 2 years' clinical experience in outpatient cardiac rehab required.
  • ACSM Exercise Specialist certification required.
  • Basic Life Saver (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Saver (ACLS) required.

Treadmill stress testing or other cardiac-related exercise experiences required.
Description
Patient Evaluation & Prescription 1. Conducts participant evaluations and formulates exercise prescriptions at key milestones. 2. Observes and assesses responses to exercise to ensure appropriateness of prescriptions. Exercise Monitoring & Instruction 1. Monitors daily sessions, interprets EKGs, and instructs safe exercise techniques. 2. Leads group classes to educate on cardiac risk factors and health practices. 3. Follows policies for progressing or terminating exercise. 4. Reports abnormal responses and consults appropriately. Communication & Education 1. Communicates with patients, families, and physicians both verbally and in writing. 2. Applies professional standards in exercise decisions (ACSM, AACVPR, AHA, SJHA). Mentorship & Leadership 1. Oversees training of physiologists, students, and interns. 2. Assists with program design and implementation using current guidelines. 3. May supervise the unit in the manager's absence. 4. Provides input on employee evaluations as requested. Coordination & Quality Improvement 1. Coordinates with department and hospital teams for efficient operations. 2. Participates in quality improvement processes. Equipment Oversight 1. Coordinates equipment cleaning and quarterly calibrations. 2. Oversees strength training equipment maintenance and orientation. Program Administration 1. Assists in writing policies and procedures. 2. Performs other related duties as required. Travel: Some travel may be required between supporting Operating Units Work Type: Onsite employee Minimum Required Qualifications: Education - Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, or kinesiology required. Experience - Four years' health care related experience with minimum of two years' clinical experience in outpatient cardiac rehab required. Certification - 1. Basic Life Saver (BLS) 2. Advanced Cardiac Life Saver (ACLS) 3. Current ACSM Exercise Specialist certification required. Skills - 1. Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills, conflict resolution skills and adult teaching /education skills. 2. Demonstrates understanding and support of best practices based on ACSM, AACVPR and AHA guidelines. Preferred Qualifications: Education - Master's degree in the field of Exercise Science (MS, MA, or MEd).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium Max 25lbs): up to 25 lbs., 0-33% of the work day (occasionally) Lifting 25 lbs. max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs.; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, Bio-hazardous waste chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, Communicable diseases, Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
