Job summary: 

Columbia College is seeking in-person adjunct instructors for part of the Spring 2026 semester (Feb 23, 2026 - May 12, 2026) for the following courses: Personal Health and Wellness, Introduction to Exercise Science, and Exercise Testing and Prescription. All courses are fully designed. Online teaching opportunities are possible, but in-person instruction is preferred. 

Course descriptions:

Personal Health and Wellness: The course will provide a thorough understanding of the behaviors and skills necessary for establishing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The areas of study will include nutrition, weight management, physical fitness, stress management, drugs in society, and health consumerism. In addition, the course will provide an emphasis on ways to make positive lifestyle changes to prevent heart disease, diabetes, sexually transmitted infections, cancer, obesity, alcoholism, and addiction to nicotine and/or other drugs.

Introduction to Exercise Science: An introduction to the field of exercise science. Topics will include history of exercise science, career and certifications opportunities in exercise science, professional standards, and areas related to exercise science such as human anatomy, human physiology, components of fitness, nutrition, biomechanics, motor control, and sports psychology. A minimum grade of C is required to continue from this course into the Exercise Science Major.

Exercise Testing and Prescription: This course offers an overview of the American College of Sports Medicine’s Guidelines for recreational and clinical exercise testing and prescription. As such, students will learn the principles and practices for accurate and appropriate exercise testing methods and prescription of exercise. Emphasis will be placed on determining an individual’s ability to perform exercise safely with special attention paid to exercise background and health status, as well as developing recommendations regarding types of exercises, exercise intensities and durations for all individuals across the life and health span. 

***The remaining portion of the class will include emphasis on prescription as exercise testing has been completed in the first half.

Introduction to Exercise Science: MWF 9:00-9:50AM

Exercise Testing and Prescription: Tues: 8:00AM-12:15PM and Thurs 11:00AM-12:15PM
