Job description

JOB TITLE: Continuous Extruder Operator I JOB GRADE: NE09
FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt DEPARTMENT NAME: P-1 / Continuous
DEPARTMENT CODE: FRMSCD REPORTS TO: Supervisor
I. POSITION SUMMARY
  1. Operates and monitors the extrusion process, which is an integral procedure in the manufacturing of dried, formed products. Those products are supplied to the kiln area where they are fired in kilns, in which ceramic products are produced that meet the required specifications & quality standards.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (The section is not intended to be an all-inclusive list and NGK Ceramics reserves the right to include other duties as assigned):
  1. Completes the GHCM (Green Honeycomb Cutting Machine) touch pad set-up; checks/resets the batch, work count, and total count settings located on the weigh batch indicator; and records the settings on the Continuous Extrusion Activities Log Sheet.

  1. Performs established power-up/start-up procedures according to the work instructions.

  1. Checks the temperature of the formed product once per batch with a digital thermometer.

  1. Obtains a relay sample once the material through the die is stable; and measures on the optibel.

  1. Removes and cleans machine components such as dies, masking plates, spacers, etc.; and cleans belt feeder and work area, as required.

  1. Enters process data into the company's information systems.

  1. Maintains the extruder information board with data gathered from the die travel ticket and from the actual tooling in use.

  1. Removes and tags any formed material exhibiting contamination; and moves material to the confinement area

  1. Collects ao into designated totes, following established procedures for collecting, packing and palletizing.

  1. Performs necessary change-over procedures according to established work instructions.

  1. Records all die adjustments during a production run onto the Die Adjustment Sheet.

L. Works safely by avoiding forklifts; staying clear of forklift doors; using personnel doors when entering or exiting the buildings; and safely using overhead hoists.
M. Participates in PM (Preventive Maintenance), MMOL (Machine Maintenance Operator Leader), and G5S (Global 5S: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) activities as needed
N. Follows all EMS (Environmental Management System) procedures, including the disposal of waste and used materials.
O. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

1. Must be able to successfully complete all required job training.
2. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
3. 6 month manufacturing/warehousing experience or equivalent
4. CRC Bronze or above
B. Required Language Skills
1. Ability to read and comprehend work instructions.
2. Ability to communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
C. Required Mathematical Skills
1. Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
D. Required Reasoning Ability
1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
2. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

VII. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS/PPE
