Job description

SUMMARY
The Avenue South Part Time Next Gen Coordinator is responsible to the church, under the direction of the Next Gen Ministry leadership, for the execution and coordination of volunteer systems across Preschool, Kids, and Students. This role focuses on recruiting, onboarding, training, resourcing and placing volunteers weekly to ensure that all ministry environments are fully staffed, safe, and effective in discipling the next generation and supporting families.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Oversee weekly volunteer scheduling and placement across Preschool, Kids, and Student environments for all worship and group hours. Work alongside Next Gen ministry staff to ensure all classrooms and ministry environments are fully staffed each week.
  • Execute the volunteer recruitment strategy to meet ongoing ministry needs.
  • Identify, invite, and onboard new volunteers and leaders into Next Gen ministry roles.
  • Ensure all volunteers are properly processed, including background checks, Ministry Safe training, and policy acknowledgments.
  • Provide onboarding, training, orientation for all new volunteers and equip volunteers with weekly communication, schedules, curriculum support, and role expectations.
  • Communicate proactively with teams when vacancies occur and help find immediate solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer assignments, status, and training completion.
  • Be present on Sundays to support volunteer teams, assist with coverage needs, and troubleshoot issues in real time.
  • Check on ministry environments to ensure leaders and volunteers are supported and resourced.
  • Partner with Next Gen staff to provide ongoing encouragement, care, and development for volunteers.
  • Assist with leadership development pathways for high-capacity volunteers.
  • Support and participate in key ministry events such as camps, VBS, trainings, and special events.
  • Assist Next Gen staff in ministry to families, especially during times of need or transition.
  • Attend all required staff, coordinator, and training meetings.
  • Assist with additional projects and ministry initiatives as needed.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Manages volunteer systems, tasks, and ministry details efficiently and without frequent reminders.
  • Maximizes time effectively by prioritizing critical weekly staffing needs.
  • Anticipates problems in scheduling or volunteer shortages and implements solutions quickly.
  • Makes timely decisions that ensure consistent ministry coverage and quality experiences.
  • Adheres to commitments, schedules, and deadlines.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; college experience preferred.
  • Experience working with volunteers, teams, or ministry environments preferred.
  • Experience in Preschool, Kids, or Student ministry environments is beneficial.
