The Baltimore Sun is looking for aggressive, curious reporters who want to break news, expose wrongdoing, and hold powerful institutions accountable.
We're seeking journalists who move quickly, develop strong sourcing, and produce exclusive reporting that reveals how decisions in government, business, and public institutions affect people across Maryland. This role requires urgency, sharp news judgment, and the persistence to push beyond official statements and uncover what others miss.
Reporters at The Sun are expected to deliver fast, accurate daily coverage while also pursuing enterprise stories and watchdog reporting that produces real impact and grows audience.
Essential Functions
  • Break news quickly and report with accuracy, fairness, and independence.
  • Develop deep sourcing and consistently produce exclusive reporting.
  • Hold government, public institutions, and powerful interests accountable.
  • Identify misconduct, policy failures, and emerging issues that demand scrutiny.
  • Produce compelling digital journalism using text, visuals, and data.
  • Work collaboratively with editors, visual journalists, and data reporters to deepen reporting.
  • Generate strong enterprise ideas and pursue stories beyond official events and press releases.
  • Use audience insights to strengthen reach and reader engagement.

Education and Experience Requirements

Salary Range: $50,000 - $80,000
