Job description

Madden's is an award-winning resort, located on more than 1,000 acres, that anticipates the wishes and desires of vacationers and offers them fantastic golf, upscale dining, lakeside spa, tennis, activity programs for children, biking, shopping, and art gallery with painting classes and almost every kind of on-the-water recreation possible in Minnesota, including fishing. Madden’s has distinguished itself by an emphasis on gracious hospitality, quality, and diversity. Our philosophy is simply to provide the best that Minnesota has to offer. Madden’s is currently seeking a Recreation Management Intern. This position will assist the Recreation Director in managing and coordinating all recreation duties and activities in the recreation department. 

Assisting with Recreation Programs:

  • Help plan, organize, and implement a variety of recreational programs and activities, including children’s activities, outdoor sports, arts and crafts, and team-building events.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of recreational events and activities.
  • Support in the execution of group events, special promotions, and themed activity days.

Guest Interaction & Customer Service:

  • Engage with guests by assisting them in selecting activities, providing information, and ensuring they have a positive experience.
  • Ensure guests feel welcome and are enjoying their recreation time, helping as needed.
  • Help resolve guest concerns or complaints with the support of the Recreation Director or team.

Program and Event Coordination:

  • Assist with the development of weekly or monthly recreational schedules for guests.
  • Support in the coordination and execution of large events, including tournaments, parties, and holiday celebrations.
  • Manage and monitor activity participation, ensuring guest safety and satisfaction.

Administrative Support:

  • Help with daily administrative tasks, such as maintaining records, preparing materials for activities, and managing sign-in sheets.
  • Assist in organizing recreational equipment and supplies, ensuring they are in good condition and properly stored.
  • Monitor inventory of recreation equipment and report any needs to the Recreation Director.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Help ensure safety guidelines are followed for all recreational activities.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment for all guests and staff.
  • Familiarize yourself with the resort’s safety policies and emergency procedures.

General Support:

  • Work alongside Recreation staff to support daily operations and provide excellent customer service.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and team-building activities.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Recreation Director.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Education/Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Recreation Management, Hospitality, Sports Management, or a related field, or recent graduate.
  • Previous experience in customer service, event planning, or recreational programming is a plus but not required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain during the internship.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and engage in physical activities for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry recreational equipment, such as sports gear and supplies.
  • Must be able to perform tasks both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Work Environment:

  • Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors at the resort.
  • The internship will require flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts depending on activity needs.

Physical Demands:

Primarily stationery such as sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time. Must have the ability to stand, walk, talk/hear, both in person and by telephone, occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 50-pounds and items sometimes repeatedly.

Expected Hours of Work:

8:00am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday with occasional nights and weekends.

Travel:

Less than 10% travel required.
