Job description

Connoisseur Media is looking for an exceptional News Director to lead the KXL News Team in beautiful Portland, OR. This full-time position runs Monday through Friday and includes on-air anchoring responsibilities. The ideal candidate is a dynamic communicator and motivated leader with strong news judgment, digital savvy, and the ability to deliver engaging, timely content across multiple platforms.
This hands-on role requires a passionate newsroom leader who can guide a talented team while actively reporting, producing, and anchoring news. You'll be responsible for on-air broadcasts, social media updates, and immediate coverage when news breaks. Expect a fast-paced, high-standard environment focused on delivering meaningful, on-demand news for an engaged audience. Key Area of Responsibility:
  • Ensure the news team meets the required minimum daily story count.
  • Anchor a news shift Monday through Friday.
  • Ensure the news team contributes to the web and other digital platforms.
  • Management and maintenance of the KXL website, Facebook, and Twitter accounts.
  • You will be required to contribute original story ideas daily that are not covered elsewhere.
  • Collaborate with news anchors and reporters on news events of the day to prioritize coverage importance.
  • Monitor all news coverage of local television affiliates, local newspapers, and other local radio stations.
  • Stay up to date with upcoming city council meetings, county commissioner's court meetings, various board meetings, and the like.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Job Requirements:
  • Must be punctual and dependable.
  • 5 years of experience working in the newsroom of a medium to major market.
  • 5 years of experience in writing news stories and versions to be published online.
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Audition, News Boss, as well as other audio editing software and remote broadcast equipment.
  • Experience working in the backend of websites for content creation.
  • Video editing and shooting skills are a plus.
  • Understanding of the importance of social media for reaching audiences on various platforms.
  • Flexibility in working hours as needed to cover other news team members.
  • Knowledge of all applicable FCC rules and regulations
  • This position requires a fully insured personal vehicle and a valid driver's license.
