Product Engineer

BUSINESS: DeltaValve

LOCATION: Sandy, UT

REPORTS TO: Manager, Engineering โ€“ DeltaValve


POSITION DETAILS

Position Summary

As our Product Engineer, you will collaborate with peers in engineering design projects for complex mechanical equipment and systems, and will investigate, evaluate, and develop new applications for existing equipment and systems. You will support the design, manufacturability, assembly, troubleshooting, and testing of new and existing equipment to ensure production capabilities and cost-effectiveness. You will recognize, identify, and correct product designs for manufacturability and functionality. You will be the technical contact with customers and potential customers and will present to peers, customers, and subject matter experts. You will occasionally travel to industry conferences and customer locations.


Principal Activities

You Will

โ€ข Apply analytical, evaluative, and constructive expertise, including performing FEA and other in-depth computational design analysis, for designing and validating engineering projects.

โ€ข Apply appropriate sound engineering principles and analytical and investigative methods and techniques, and develop practical solutions to technical engineering problems.

โ€ข Collaborate with peers to evaluate systems and design modifications to eliminate causes of manufacturing and operational issues.

โ€ข Collaborate with peers to provide technical support to requests for quotes (RFQs) including site layout drawings and specification reviews.

โ€ข Develop, prepare, and check complex models, assemblies, drawings, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), bill of materials (BOMs), renderings, and animations.  

โ€ข Provide estimates of labor resources and materials required to complete engineering work and prepare schedules for accomplishing tasks within estimates.     

โ€ข Support field operation and maintenance activities for installation, machining, fabrication, troubleshooting, and repair of complex mechanical equipment and systems.   

โ€ข Investigate device failures and support cross-functional teams in engineering and implementing sustainable solutions.

โ€ข Support cross-functional teams to investigate and develop new applications requiring innovation, ingenuity, and complex test procedures for equipment and systems.   

โ€ข Write and review reports and documentation (i.e. condition assessments, root cause analysis, audits, specifications, evaluation plans, analysis and test reports, technical manuals), and design and conduct experiments to draw conclusions and provide recommendations.   

โ€ข Prepare or support preparation of working plans and revision or creation of complete mechanical drawings and assemblies from notes, verbal instructions, and rough or detailed sketches using computerized equipment (e.g., CAD/CAM: SolidWorks).   

โ€ข With support from peers, develop, release, and coordinate the maintenance of documentation, reporting, publishing, and technical or other presentations to ensure compliance to and understanding of company and contractual requirements.   

โ€ข Support the creation of maintenance schedules, procedures, and safety standards on current and new equipment to ensure products are appropriately operated and maintained. 

โ€ข Perform other responsibilities, as assigned.


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

You Have:

โ€ข Proven knowledge and competency with:

o Blueprints, schematics, piping drawings, site elevation drawings, manufacturing prints, and drafting (ANSI Y14.5)

o Design of Experiments, testing, data interpretation (e.g., vibration analysis), non-destructive testing, monitoring/failure analysis, and equipment failure history analysis

o FEA (stress, pressure vessel, thermal, kinematic analysis; CFD), preferably with valves, pressure vessels, and actuator designs (HOV, MOV, AOV), and hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems

o Machine design (fits, tolerances, alignment, bearings, power transmission and other machine components)

o Design for manufacturability, inspection, measurement and testing, and a research and development atmosphere

o Working in PLM systems and ability to train and mentor

โ€ข Proven knowledge and understanding of:

o Computer aided design and analysis (solid modeling with SolidWorks or similar, calculations and complex functions with Excel, MathCAD or similar)

o Manufacturing practices, processes, and engineering materials

o Understanding of Bill of Material (BOMs) structuring

o ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code: Section VIII, Div. I and II (Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels), Section II (Material Specifications and Properties), ASME B31.3 (Piping code), ANSI B16.34 (Valves, Flanged and Threaded), and API 600 preferred

โ€ข Ability to draw conclusions and reconcile differences between calculated and actual results

โ€ข Ability to present technical information to non-technical personnel

โ€ข Ability to travel to customers, potential customers, and industry conferences: up to 25%, for 1-4+ weeks at a time

Education & Experience

โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s degree in mechanical engineering or directly related field of study required

โ€ข 5 plus years of directly applicable work experience in a technical environment, or equivalent education and applicable work experience in a technical environment

โ€ข Experience with inspection, measurement and testing, and experience in a research and development atmosphere preferred

โ€ข Preference given for experience with industrial valves, petrochemical processes, and machine shops.
