The Senior Engineer I - New Product Development is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and launching new industrial fan and air movement products. This role works cross-functionally with manufacturing, sales, sourcing, and quality teams to deliver innovative, cost-effective, and manufacturable solutions that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

Design and Development

  • Developing new mechanical product designs
  • Continuously assess technical risk, and mitigate through:
    • Engineering calculations
    • Computer Aided Engineering
  • Creating:
    • engineering models and drawings,
    • Specifications,bills of material (BOMs),
  • Supporting global product development projects
  • Performing fan/product performance selections
  • Developing innovative design solutions for customer and engineering problems
  • Strong continuous improvement mindset

Testing and Specifications

  • Performing engineering and product testing
  • Verifying product performance
  • Supporting development and post-installation testing
  • Writing engineering specifications
  • Participating in third-party contractual testing
  • Providing technical support during development and implementation

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Manufacturing
  • Sourcing/procurement
  • Vendors/suppliers
  • Customers
  • Operations teams
  • Key activities include:
    • Design-for-manufacturability
    • Cost-effective design coordination
    • Vendor technical evaluations
    • Supplier selection support
    • Resolving technical performance issues

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience  

  • 8+ years of design engineering experience in product development or manufacturing 
  • Experience with CAD software (Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Experience with industrial equipment, HVAC, fans, blowers, or rotating equipment
  • CFD, FEA, or airflow analysis experience
  • Knowledge of ERP/PDM systems
  • Project management experience
  • Familiarity with ASME, AMCA, or ISO standards
  • Proficient with ERP applications for BOM maintenance
  • Working knowledge of Stage Gate Process (New Product Development) 
  • Lean NPI and/or Customer Focus Technology Planning (CFTP) 
  • Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)

 

Education & Certifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field.

Travel & Working Environment 

  • Combination of office, engineering lab, and manufacturing floor environments
  • Occasional travel to suppliers, customers, or manufacturing facilities may be required
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
