GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Process Specialist oversees the selection of equipment and development of operational procedures for new products in collaboration with the New Product Development team. This role is also responsible for establishing and monitoring project timelines and budgets, as well as facilitating clear communication among Manufacturing, Design, Tooling and Die Manufacture, and Sales and Marketing (Customer Services) departments. Additionally, the Process Specialist is tasked with redefining and enhancing existing production processes to drive continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position reports to the Product Development Manager and is responsible for providing technical guidance to the Director of Technical Services and Operations Teams at the North American and Chinese SMI facilities regarding all manufacturing processes.
  • Must understand the precious metals, minting manufacturing processes, metallurgy, and a high level of knowledge and expertise in best practices as they pertain to the manufacture of blanks, coins and other minted products. This role is responsible for the development and improvement of the minting and manufacturing processes and includes process improvements, justification of investment in new processes, equipment and technology which will lead to increased opportunities.
  • Provides analysis of key process areas, performing Cpk and Gage R&R studies as needed.

  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously; ensuring products are completed on time, to cost and quality specifications are met.
  • Ensure new products are tested and approved by Manufacturing and Customers prior to full initiation of product production.
  • Coordinate, record, and evaluate outcomes to ensure compliance with internal and external product specifications.
  • Develop and Maintain SMI’s ERP routing data for accuracy on existing and new products.
  • Oversee product development, selection and qualification of various parts being used.
  • Coordinate production scheduling for new product and process design across all departments.
  • Ensure critical issues are correctly identified and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service, Manufacturing, and New Product Development to provide specification proposals for customers seeking guidance.
  • Oversees an ongoing process improvement initiative aimed at reducing waste and duplication, while enhancing operational efficiency, quality, safety, security, and interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Ensures ISO 9001 Quality Standards are maintained.
  • Develop and Maintain processes to meet customer specifications and or satisfy customer’s expectations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Two-year college degree in mechanical discipline or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience in manufacturing process development preferred.  Proficient computer skills with 3-5 years’ experience in Excel.  Advanced math skills and statistics preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
As an employee, you may be required to work in cool to extremely hot environments. There is potential for exposure to fuels, oils, cleaning solvents and fumes from machinery.  PPE and/or job specific safety equipment may be required.
