** About the Firm**
Apparent Legal Group, LLC is a Las Cruces, NM-based law firm focused on family law and probate. Our practice covers divorce, child custody and support, adoption, kinship and adult guardianship, conservatorship, and contested probate matters. We are a small firm looking to grow.
** The Role**
You will handle a varied caseload across family law and probate matters under the supervision of a senior attorney, with increasing independence as your skills develop. This is a hands-on role — you will be in court, at the table, and in front of clients from day one.
** What You'll Do**
- Manage a caseload spanning family law and probate, including:
- * Divorce, legal separation, and property division
- Child custody, visitation, and child support
- Paternity and parentage matters
- Adoption and kinship guardianship
- Adult guardianship and conservatorship
- Name changes
- Contested and uncontested probate proceedings
- Basic estate planning (wills, powers of attorney, healthcare directives)
- Draft pleadings, motions, orders, settlement agreements, wills, and other legal documents
- Appear in district court and before hearing officers for hearings, trials, and status conferences
- Conduct client consultations and maintain ongoing client communication
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda
- Collaborate with paralegals and support staff
** What We're Looking For**
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active New Mexico State Bar license in good standing (or admission pending bar results — we will consider recent graduates)
- 0–6 years of experience (new attorneys welcome; family law or probate experience a plus but not required)
- Strong legal writing and research skills
- Comfort in the courtroom or genuine eagerness to develop it
- Excellent interpersonal skills — this work requires connecting with clients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives
- Highly organized with the ability to manage competing deadlines
** Preferred (Not Required)**
- Prior family law, guardianship, or probate experience
- Familiarity with the New Mexico Uniform Probate Code and/or the New Mexico Children's Code and Domestic Relations statutes
- Experience in New Mexico courts
- Spanish language proficiency
