Job Description

Under general supervision of the Supervisor of Clinical Engineering, the Radiology Service Engineer II performs intermediate to advanced-level maintenance, calibration, and repair of diagnostic imaging equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality operation. Working under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for troubleshooting complex imaging system problems, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting clinical staff with technical expertise. The Radiology Service Engineer II also assists in new equipment installations, system integrations, and regulatory compliance activities, while mentoring Radiology Service Engineer I. Radiology Service Engineer II position plays a key role in maintaining safe, functional, and available medical equipment for patients and care givers.

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM), acceptance testing and installation on imaging equipment in accordance with manufacturerโ€™s recommendations, departmental standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Independently diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and software-related problems with imaging equipment.
  • Respond to service calls in a timely and professional manner to minimize equipment downtime and clinical disruption.
  • Perform electrical safety testing and documentation per organizational and regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, NFPA 99, FDA, ACR).
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repair, and inspection activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts, tools, and test equipment required for imaging device support.
  • Participate in on-call rotation, as assigned.
  • Interface with radiology technologists, physicians, and vendors to support clinical needs and communicate service status.
  • Provide technical training and mentorship to Radiology Service Engineer I.
  • Follow hospital policies and procedures to ensure compliance with safety and infection control requirements.
  • Participate in training and professional development to advance technical knowledge of radiology systems.
  • Tag and inventory new equipment; assist with equipment installations and relocations.
  • Maintain parts, hand tools and test equipment inventory, ensuring cleanliness and organization of the workspace.
  • Participate in on-the-job training and continuing education programs to develop technical skills.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and changes in medical equipment regulations.
  • Collaborate with other team members, physicists, vendors, and clinical departments to resolve image quality and connectivity issues.
  • Participate in imaging equipment evaluations, upgrades, and capital project planning.
  • Other duty as requested by Supervisor of Clinical Engineering.
Qualifications Education:
  • Associateโ€™s degree in science or technology (BMET/EET) or military trained (BMET) Biomedical Equipment Technician
Experience:
  • 5 years of experience servicing medical imaging equipment in a hospital or service organization.
Other Desired Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:
  • Strong working knowledge of diagnostic imaging principles and systems, including radiographic, fluoroscopic, and mammography.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical, mechanical, and software issues in imaging equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service documentation.
  • Skilled in the use of electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, radiation meters, and safety analyzers.
  • Familiarity with CMMS software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and ability to travel between facilities as required.
  • General radiographic and fluoroscopic systems (fixed and portable)
