Job description

  • Research, plan, design and develop mechanical products including instruments, controls, robots, engines and machines
  • Research, plan, design and develop mechanical systems including thermal hydraulic and heat transfer systems
  • Apply research to the planning, design, development and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines and machines
  • Apply advanced technical principles, theories and concepts
  • Contribute to the development of new principles and concepts
  • Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide highly innovative solutions
  • Work under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives
  • Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results
  • Develop advanced technological ideas and guide their development into final products
  • Serve as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and programs
  • Advise management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications
  • Support shipboard troubleshooting during construction and trials
  • Present technical support information in customer meetings and design reviews

Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 14 years of experience, or Master of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 12 years of experience, or PhD in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 9 years of experience
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Subject Matter Expert in Main Propulsion Systems and auxiliary system analysis and design, specifically Main Reduction Gears, Propulsion Engines and support systems
  • Ability to apply standard engineering practices, scientific principles and techniques to specific situations and recognize discrepancies
  • Ability to interact and present information verbally and in writing to internal and external customers
  • Ability to provide shipboard troubleshooting during construction and trials of complex propulsion-oriented problems
  • Expert knowledge of LHA/LHD, LPD, DDG and NSC/FFG(X) ship specifications and performance requirements
  • Experience submitting RCIA's to the Navy for resolution of contractual issues
  • Experience presenting technical support information to customers in meetings and design review sessions
  • Experience submitting hardware and software CDRLs to the Navy for approval
  • Experience supporting propulsion systems planning and evaluation from program office award to supplier delivery of the ship
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and direction to engineers across disciplines responsible for interfacing systems
  • Ability to provide professional technical mentoring for junior engineers
