In Kansas City, Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) manages and operates the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Kansas City National Security Campus. This state-of-the-art engineering, manufacturing and sourcing facility produces a wide array of intricate components to deliver trusted national security products and government services primarily for the NNSA. Summary

The Software Engineer II is responsible for a variety of intermediate level software engineering responsibilities under moderate supervision. They use broad knowledge of software engineering discipline, processes, and tools to complete various project subtasks. They interact with internal customers and team members to facilitate the completion of products to customer specifications.


  • Performs software design, coding, debugging, testing, troubleshooting throughout the application development process. 
  • Applies standard software engineering discipline, processes, and tools to complete projects.
  • Interacts with customers in all phases of software development.
  • Analyzes existing information systems and applications to identify weaknesses and develop opportunities for improvements. 
  • Develops software development skills in a collaborative/team environment. 
  • Generates software documentation and performs requirements-based verification and validation testing of software to assure all requirements are met. 
  • Develops application specifications, conversion, and migration designs; supports maintenance of applications, as needed. 
  • Conforms to established systems development life cycles, computing standards, and guidelines. 
  • Assists in defining development guidelines and standards to be utilized in software development/integration including developing custom integration solutions with major enhancements, interfaces, functions, and features. 
  • Assists in the evaluation and selection process for new application packages, as needed.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other equivalent ABET accredited Engineering program;
  • 2+ years of experience;
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time;
  • Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business;
  • Regular and reliable attendance as it is an essential function of this job;
  • United States Citizenship; and
  • Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations).

WE VALUE

  • Some positions within this classification may require unique engineering knowledge or coursework related to Electrical Engineering; 
  • Experience with designing and implementing automated software testing; 
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma tools and methodology; Six Sigma certification preferred.
