Overview
AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking our next Software Developer III !!!!
As a Software Developer III on the NISSC 3 program, you will serve as a senior technical contributor and leader across multiple focus areas: DevSecOps Support, PJM Scrum Master, and CMD Manager. You will design, develop, test, and maintain software components that support both cadence-managed and event-driven mission deliverables in a secure, mission-critical environment. You will lead or perform software integration, troubleshooting, and secure coding activities; collaborate closely with systems engineering and test teams; and ensure releases and processes comply with program and DoD standards. In the Scrum Master and CMD Manager variants, you will additionally provide leadership for agile teams and/or command-and-control-related development and coordination. These roles work in close coordination with the EDLM/UDLM (Emergency/Urgent Depot Level Maintenance) Manager.
Responsibilities
For all Software Developer III roles (core responsibilities):
- Design, develop, modify, test, and maintain software components for cadence-managed and event-managed program deliverables.
- Lead or perform software integration, troubleshooting, defect resolution, and performance tuning.
- Apply secure coding practices consistent with DevSecOps and DoD/NIST cybersecurity requirements.
- Use version control and configuration management tools to manage source code, branches, baselines, and releases.
- Collaborate with systems engineering and test teams to implement new features, address findings, and validate changes.
- Document software releases, including change descriptions, test results, known issues, and deployment notes.
- Provide technical input for incident reports, maintenance records, and user/operational documentation.
- Support continuous improvement of development processes, automation, and DevSecOps pipelines.
- Coordinate closely with the EDLM/UDLM Manager to ensure software changes supporting urgent/emergency depot-level maintenance are properly integrated and documented.
- Additional focus-area responsibilities may include:
• DevSecOps Support (5 roles)
• Lead DevSecOps pipeline design and improvements (build, test, security scanning, deployment).
• Integrate security tools and checks into CI/CD workflows.
• Mentor junior developers on secure coding and DevSecOps best practices.
• PJM Scrum Master (2 roles)
• Serve as Scrum Master for one or more development teams, facilitating sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Remove impediments, coordinate with Product Owners/Project Managers, and ensure alignment to program priorities.
• Track and report team delivery metrics (velocity, burndown, etc.) and drive continuous improvement.
• CMD Manager (1 role)
• Coordinate software activities supporting CMD-related functions (e.g., command-and-control or mission data management).
• Align CMD-related development schedules and resources with program milestones and stakeholder needs.
• Support CMD-focused risk/issue tracking and status reporting.
Qualifications
7-10 years of experience in software development, with increasing responsibility and leadership, preferably in secure or mission-critical DoD/defense environments.
• Strong experience in software design, development, modification, testing, and maintenance using modern languages and frameworks.
• Demonstrated proficiency in software integration, troubleshooting, and secure coding practices.
• Experience documenting software releases and providing technical input for incident and maintenance reporting.
• Experience with tools such as:
- ELMS, RTC, Jira, Confluence
- ClearCase, ClearQuest
- SQL or related database tools
  • Active Secret Clearance (TS/SCI Eligenility Required)
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following (or closely related field): Information Technology (IT) / Cybersecurity / Computer Science (CS) / Information Systems (IS) / Data Science / Software Engineering OR equivalent DoD/Military training and experience in software development or related technical discipline.
  • One of the following is desired / strongly preferred:
    • CSSLP
    • GSEC
