Job Title:
Critical Power and Electromagnetic Threats - Simulation and Data Analyst
Location:
Knoxville, TN
Job Summary and Description:
The position is for a senior level engineer with expertise in power system simulation, data analysis, and design. The candidate will provide technical support and leadership across multiple projects within the Critical Power & Electromagnetic Threats Program and must be U.S. citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Applicants with active security clearance are preferred.
The candidate can expect the following tasks and roles:
  • Perform power system analysis (time-domain and frequency domain) using software tools like EMTP-RV, PowerWorld, PSS/E OpenDSS, etc.
  • Design, implement, and test novel analytics and simulation capabilities.
  • Provide technical leadership through collaboration with a diverse team of subject-matter experts and junior staff.
  • Provide engineering support and solutions to technical challenges that arise daily over a broad range of electrical engineering topics.
  • Manage medium-to-large-scale projects, including budgets and resources.
  • Communicate strategies and results, written and verbal, to program members, clients and external stakeholders through guidelines, reports, meetings, webcasts, workshops, and conferences.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • 10 or more years of R&D project experience at a national laboratory, research institute, and/or utility.
  • Knowledge and experience applying computational methods used to analyze, plan and operate electrical power systems.
  • Experience designing and implementing complex simulations across multiple platforms, including the effective post-process of the resulting datasets.
  • Excellent communication with customers and staff, both verbally and in writing.
  • Shows maturity of technical expertise and assumes responsibility for achieving highly specialized technical objectives.
  • Self-motivated individual contributor capable of working independently and effectively as part of a team.
    Ideal candidate:
  • MS and/or PhD in Electrical Engineering with Power System emphasis.
  • Experience developing asset models and building, validating, and applying network models for a range of power system analyses.
  • Experience with software coding (Python, MATLAB, Delphi, C++, etc.).
  • Knowledge of AI/ML and potential applications in power systems research.
  • Ability to recognize strategic issues and projects and build collaborative and successfully complete projects
  • Active TS or Q security clearance with SCI eligibility

The salary range for this position is $0 USD to $0 USD annually.
This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
