The Operations Team Lead supports daily execution of Distribution Center operations by serving as a working lead and subject-matter expert across outlet, warehouse, and dock functions. This role provides on-the-floor guidance, training support, and task coordination during assigned shifts while reinforcing safety, standard operating procedures, and productivity expectations. This position does not have direct supervisory or employee relations responsibilities.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide shift-level coordination and direction for assigned work areas, including organizing workflow, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring execution aligns with operational goals.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert on Distribution Center processes, equipment, and safety standards.
- Train, coach, and mentor team members by modeling correct procedures, reinforcing SOPs, and supporting new employee onboarding.
- Provide real-time feedback and guidance to employees to reinforce performance expectations and adherence to standards.
- Monitor workflow and identify operational issues, escalating concerns and recommending solutions to management.
- Conduct daily safety checks of distribution centers and report findings to manager.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections of forklifts, balers, cart tippers, and other material handling equipment and report findings to manager. Take appropriate action from manager as directed (e.g. using equipment tag-outs for equipment in need of service or repair).
- Conduct opening and closing procedures for the outlet and warehouse in support of the manager.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment for customers and staff within the distribution center.
- Assist with customer questions or escalations on the sales floor.
- Assist in coordinating Logistics activities within the Distribution Center.
- Support shift continuity in the absence of the Assistant Site Manager by escalating issues, maintaining communication, and ensuring safe and efficient operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This role does not have direct reports and does not perform employee relations functions such as hiring, corrective action, performance evaluations, or terminations. The Team Lead may provide day-to-day work direction and operational guidance during shifts.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Forklift certification or ability to be certified within 30 days in role.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in retail, warehousing, logistics, or recycling operations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including writing and reading emails, Excel, and familiarity with D365 or similar ERP systems.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills; bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
- Valid Texas Driver License.
- Experience working with or advocating for marginalized communities is highly valued.
- Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs as needed and walk warehouse floors and outdoor lots.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, or crouching in operational areas.
- Exposure to dust, heat/cold and outdoor work areas.
- Must be able to safely navigate GCT outlet and post-retail facilities.
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled facility.
