Job description

U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Only

POSITION SUMMARY
The Network Operations Analyst is an operations‑focused role responsible for real‑time mission support within the Deep Space Network (DSN) environment. This position is ideal for individuals with hands‑on experience in satellite operations, military communications, or mission systems—people who thrive in structured procedures, operational tempo, and mission reliability.

NOAs serve as subject‑matter experts on DSN infrastructure, project interfaces, and operational processes. They develop mission support plans, conduct tests, publish reports, support critical events, and perform real‑time fault analysis to protect data integrity and mission continuity for NASA exploration programs.

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES
• Participate in mission planning, preparation, coordination, testing, and execution of DSN operational activities.
• Provide operations‑centered technical support for assigned JPL and non‑JPL projects, ensuring mission readiness and adherence to procedures.
• Develop, test, and maintain Software Support Files (SSFs) and configuration files necessary for mission operations. (Training provided.)
• Assist with Project Interface Tests (PITs), particularly during network software/hardware upgrades or configuration changes.
• Maintain clear, mission‑focused communication with internal/external customers and operations personnel.
• Support operational troubleshooting: conduct real‑time fault analysis, recommend corrective actions, and help minimize mission data impact.
• Contribute to Network Operations Plans including training materials, test plans, operational procedures, and reporting.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE (UPDATED INTENT)
• Comfortable in 24/7 operations, shift‑based environments, or high‑reliability communications settings.
• Enjoys structured procedures, checklists, coordination, and operational discipline.
• Brings practical experience from military satellite operations, aerospace command centers, or telecom/mission operations.
• Interested in long‑term operational excellence, not short‑term rotational technical development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
• Associate of Science (AS) degree in a technical field such as engineering, physics, astronomy, planetary sciences, mathematics, or a related discipline. (Equivalent military training in satellite or communications operations strongly considered.)
• Strong computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Experience
• 1+ year experience in a technical discipline preferred.
Prior military experience in satellite communications or operations is highly valued and may substitute for direct civilian experience.
• Experience in operational environments, comms centers, or mission systems strongly preferred.
• Spacecraft telecommunications familiarity is preferred but not required; training provided.
• Strong communication, documentation, and presentation skills.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must be able to obtain a National Background Check.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• EEOE, including disability/vets.

COMPENSATION
Annual base salary range in California: $48,800 – $70,500, depending on experience, qualifications, and mission‑related competencies.
