Smart Communications is a mission-critical managed network services provider overseeing 130+ remote networks across the United States. We are looking for a skilled Network Operations Specialist to join our growing NOC team at our Vancouver, WA satellite office.

In this role, you will take ownership of the provisioning, monitoring, and day-to-day management of network infrastructure deployed across client sites, remote offices, and data centers nationwide. You’ll work alongside a team of specialists dedicated to keeping our clients’ networks running reliably in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.

WHAT YOU’LL DONetwork Management & Monitoring
  • Monitor all managed networks and systems using our comprehensive Zabbix monitoring platform
  • Access, configure, and troubleshoot designated network equipment to maintain uptime and performance
  • Take corrective actions to restore full service in response to alarms and outages
  • Install firmware and software updates to routers, firewalls, switches, servers, and other equipment
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with client contracts and service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Hardware & Logistics
  • Manage the full lifecycle of network hardware, including:
  • Receiving, unboxing, tagging, configuring, testing, and shipping equipment
  • Firewalls, routers, switches, servers, ATAs, WAPs, pointtopoint relays, cellular modems, SFP modules, patch panels, racks, and other designated gear
  • Maintain accurate records in our asset tracking and management system
  • Support & Collaboration
  • Receive, triage, and resolve trouble tickets related to network and system issues
  • Assist the Field Services team with new circuit turnups, remote circuit testing, and troubleshooting
  • Communicate clearly with teammates, other departments, and clients during outages and ticket resolution
  • Provide regular status updates to supervisors on work activities and open issues
  • Travel to data center, client, and office locations within the US on short notice when required (very limited)
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and a positive, serviceoriented attitude
  • REQUIREMENTSRequired
  • 1+ year of experience in computer networking, network management, or network administration
  • Handson experience with Linux (Ubuntu Server) including commandline administration
  • Familiarity with Windows Server environments
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewalls, switching)
  • Ability to reliably commute to our Vancouver, WA 98682 office — this is not a remote position
  • Availability for a rotating oncall schedule outside of regular business hours and weekends
  • Preferred
  • Experience with network monitoring platforms (Zabbix or similar)
  • Familiarity with managed services or NOC environments
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Linux+, or CCNA
  • Experience supporting telecommunications circuits (fiber, cable, cellular failover)
  • SCHEDULE & ON-CALL

    This is a swing shift position, scheduled 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Monday–Friday. Our NOC team operates a rotating on-call schedule to support clients outside of regular business hours and on weekends. On-call rotations are shared evenly across the team (typically one week per team member per cycle) and are generally low-volume. Additional on-call compensation is provided.
