Job description

About the role

We are looking for a Network Infrastructure Projects Engineer to join our dynamic Infrastructure Projects team. This team is dedicated to managing a range of initiatives, from large-scale build-outs and relocation projects to targeted infrastructure service improvements.

As a client-facing engineer, you will regularly interact with client stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable communication, and expectation setting is imperative. The location options for this role are: Boston, CA Bay Area, or New York, with frequent local travel required within the greater region surrounding those areas. Occasional travel to other Pliancy hubs may be necessary.

What is the work like?

Many of our clients are showing consistent growth. This manifests as a lot of movement into and out of office spaces. In both of our client verticals, we find ourselves:

  • Joining owner, architect, and contractor calls to work closely with construction teams and their subcontractors for pieces that impact low-voltage and audiovisual installations.
  • Designing, ordering, and implementing a full network stack (switching, firewalls, and wireless).
  • Partnering with internet service providers and working with them from site surveys to circuit activation.
  • Scoping and installing AV hardware for high-traffic conference rooms, executive suites, and hybrid collaboration spaces

There is a lot of on-site work, but there will be instances where you are doing various, remote value-add efforts (predictive wireless surveys, license renewals, maintenance, or post-installation support).

Who are we looking for?

Our ideal candidate has a strong technical background with a project manager's mindset.

  • You are someone who finds as much satisfaction in an organized server rack and a flawlessly executed office move as you do in troubleshooting a complex routing issue.
  • You are able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • In addition to managing day-to-day operations, you will help support and continuously improve our standards.
  • You possess expertise in Network Architecture (Layer 2/3) and Physical Infrastructure, supplemented by a working understanding of cloud identity platforms (M365, Google Workspace) and AV/collaboration stacks.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and be accountable for the success of small to large-scale IT projects, such as office moves and network upgrades
  • Design and implement audio-visual solutions such as huddle spaces, conference rooms, and collaboration spaces
  • Collaborate with the Infrastructure Projects team and leads to support project strategies and process creation within their scope
  • Work closely with both the team and client-facing consultants to design and implement best practices for project implementation
  • Create meaningful documentation to facilitate project hand-off to consultants
  • Serve as a key technical resource for escalated Network and AV issues, ensuring high-touch resolution for critical client environments in partnership with the Consulting teams

Requirements

Should Have

Networking

  • Hands-on experience in designing and configuring a variety of full-stack networks (e.g., Cisco Meraki, FortiGate, Sonicwall, or Ubiquiti)
  • Deep understanding of Layer 2/3 (VLANs, STP, OSPF/BGP) and security (Firewalls, Site-to-Site VPNs, Client VPNs)
  • Experience with Wireless Predictive Modeling (using tools like Ekahau or Hamina) and post-install validation

Project & Site Management

  • Experience managing project lifecycles within tools like Monday.com, Asana, or Jira
  • Experience with new office construction, including working with architects, general contractors, and subcontractors
  • Experience with MDF/IDF closet design (cooling, power requirements, rack elevations)

AV & Collaboration

  • Experience with the Zoom platform (Rooms and end-user deployments)
  • Experience with the Microsoft Teams platform (Rooms and end-user deployments)
  • Experience with collaboration room hardware installations and integration (displays, cameras, speakers)

Systems & Operations

  • Solid understanding of Windows Server and on-premise server hardware/network infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of EntraID, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and cloud-based storage (Egnyte, Box, Dropbox, etc.)

Physical

  • The ability to wear personal protective equipment correctly for up to a full working day when on an active job site
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and perform installations in tight IDF closets or under conference tables.
  • The ability to move safely in confined spaces (networking closets, for example) and around active construction
  • Exceptional planning and organizational ability
  • Strong documentation and communication skills Aptitude and desire to learn new technologies
  • Ability to teach and mentor others
  • Desire to research new products and technologies to improve the project lifecycle
