Job description

Summary:
The Design Engineer II represents a high level of technical expertise to internal and external customers in a variety of forms that include design assistance, delivering education, and enabling the customer to do business with ScanSource. The focus of the position may be on specified technologies, or on a specific group of customers. This role is expected to be an expert in their focus area and will act as a trusted advisor to the company's customers. This individual would have detailed knowledge of a given product line, from software and hardware perspective and the connectivity issues associated with these products. This person would know the past product family along with updating their knowledge on a going forward basis. The Design Engineer II must demonstrate consultative skills with an emphasis on partner enablement. Enablement and educational responsibilities will involve leading in person training, demonstrating the technology, and representing the company at industry events as a subject matter expert.
Essential Job Duties:
  • Researches, recommends, and evaluates telecommunications requirements to ensure the needs of the Business Partner and End User are satisfied.
  • Prepares configurations via the vendor configuration tool with appropriate pricing detail distributed to all concerned parties.
  • Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in field of Network Design.
  • Partner enablement which includes travel for in person training and attending supplier events

Reporting Relationships:
  • Under minimal supervision and with appreciable latitude for actions and decisions, has responsibility for all aspects of difficult projects that are broad in nature and require originality and ingenuity.
  • Reports to Director, Technical Services or Manager, Technical Services

Credentials:
Requirements:
  • Minimum five (5) years prior related experience.
  • Deep Network Engineering knowledge

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Professional Level Certifications in Network Engineering from Extreme, HPE, or Cisco (ECP | ACP | JNCIS/JNCIP | CCNP)

Physical Requirements:
  • May require sitting at computer for long periods of time.
  • Minimal lifting may be required.
  • An essential function for this position, based on business necessity, is that the employee must be physically in attendance at his/her workstation at the designated company office location during the normal business hours designated for the position.

Compensation:
Base Range : $62,300 - $80,000 and total compensation range: $70,000-$90,000
Actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on a number of variables including work experience, education and skills/ achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
For non-sales roles and sales roles with a variable component, total compensation reflects both a base salary and variable targets.
