POSITION SUMMARY
The Network Engineer specializes in the design, implementation, and administration of the network and its security for enterprise environments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Plan and deploy network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems
• Ensure redundancy, security, and scalability in physical network designs
• Troubleshoot complex hardware issues and optimize performance of network devices
• Collaborate with vendors for hardware procurement and maintenance contracts
• Ensure and monitor SLED compliance of enterprise-level environments
• Lead installations, customizations, and maintenance on the enterprise-wide systems.
• Design system security structures.
• Lead changes to controlled production environments.
• Provide upper-level application support to users and communicate periodically with vendors.
• Assist with troubleshooting operational issues and work to implement appropriate solutions.
• Document software configurations and operational procedures.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead network hardware projects

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires lifting, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• 3–5 years of experience in network hardware engineering and deployment
• Proficiency in configuring enterprise-grade routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet)
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCIS, Aruba Certified Switching Professional)
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Expertise in system implementation and testing processes.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Must pass SLED and AFIS background check.
• All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to participate in the South Carolina Retirement System.
• Possession of a valid State driver''''s license.
