Position Summary (Primary Function)
The Network Engineer is responsible for the design & creation, implementation, maintenance, and security of the Airport network infrastructure. This role ensures reliable network performance, supports business operations, and protects systems from internal and external threats. The Network Engineer works closely with IT staff, airport tenants, construction contractors, vendors, and end users to troubleshoot issues, implement upgrades, and maintain best-practice network standards.
Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
โ€ข Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless LAN controllers, and wireless access points, ensuring scalability and high availability.
โ€ข Monitor and analyze network performance and availability; proactively identify and resolve issues to ensure high reliability and uptime.
โ€ข Manage LAN, WLAN, and internet connectivity across a large, complex campus environment.
โ€ข Develop and enforce robust network security strategies, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls aligned with industry best practices.
โ€ข Plan and execute regular network maintenance, upgrades, and patching to ensure resilience, stability, and compliance.
โ€ข Troubleshoot network outages and performance problems; provide timely resolution and detailed root-cause analysis.
โ€ข Maintain accurate network documentation, including topology diagrams, technical configurations, and standard operating procedures.
โ€ข Support user connectivity issues and collaborate with IT staff to resolve escalated problems.
โ€ข Ensure backup, redundancy, and disaster-recovery capabilities for critical network infrastructure.
โ€ข Evaluate emerging networking technologies and recommend and implement improvements.
โ€ข Collaborate with vendors and service providers to resolve service issues and maintain SLAs for shared tenant services.
โ€ข Ensure compliance with organizational policies, industry standards and applicable security frameworks.
โ€ข Participate in capacity planning and performance optimization for core network services.
โ€ข Utilize network monitoring and automation tools (e.g., SNMP, NetFlow, scripting) for proactive management.
โ€ข Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience Requirements
โ€ข Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in designing, implementing, and administering enterprise data networks with stringent high-availability and security requirements.
โ€ข Expert-level proficiency in core networking protocols and services, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and advanced switching technologies.
โ€ข Demonstrated hands-on experience with enterprise-grade firewalls, VPN solutions, and implementation of comprehensive network security best practices.
โ€ข In-depth knowledge of structured cabling systems (copper and fiber) including adherence to industry standards and best practices for cable management.
โ€ข Familiarity with redundancy, failover, and disaster recovery strategies for network infrastructure.
โ€ข Strong documentation skills, with the ability to produce accurate and detailed network diagrams, configuration standards, and technical records.

โ€ข Diligence must be exercised when handling confidential information.
โ€ข Reasonable care for equipment/process will prevent injury/damage.
Working Conditions
โ€ข Physical Demand - Little physical effort required. Some light lifting, carrying, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, stooping and kneeling requirements are necessary for up to 40% of the time. Sitting is required for 60% of the time.
โ€ข After-hours on-call rotation and occasional after-hours work for network maintenance or outage resolution.
โ€ข Mental and or Visual Demands - Mental and visual demands vary with function performed. Consistent mental attention is needed to monitor workflow and respond efficiently.
โ€ข Attentiveness to work procedures will reduce risk of minor injury in certain work areas.
โ€ข Exposed to normal office environment and limited industrial environment.
Other Requirements
โ€ข Must be able to complete and pass a background investigation, drug screening, and physical examination as per Federal, State, and GSP Airport District requirements.
