Job description


Designs and develops network systems for small and large-scale enterprise, data center, or cloud-based environments independently, collaborating with vendors and internal groups to validate configurations. Contributes business logic to automation frameworks for testing and operations independently, automating network tasks and reviewing dashboards to monitor network health. Independently develops and implements test cases and strategies, guiding junior engineers, conducting break-fix validation, and gathering and innovating compliance data collection. Implements and defines requirements for monitoring network health using dashboards and alerting systems, conducts incident response and root cause investigations, and develops tools for frontline support teams. Collaborates with project managers to achieve milestones, guides junior engineers, contributes to incident response and RCA documentation, and ensures networking standards adherence independently. Analyzes network performance metrics to identify efficiency issues and supports infrastructure growth with guidance.

Key Responsibilities
Network Design, Development, and Validation:
-Designs and develops standard network systems to support small and large-scale enterprise, data center, or cloud-based networking environments independently.
-Validates production networks and assists in scaling use cases independently.
-Participates in the network solution design and validation process independently.
-Identifies risks in network design prior to deployment.
-Collaborates with vendors and internal groups (e.g., quality assurance) to validate network configurations, hardware, firmware, software, and cloud network code.
-Contributes to the design of playbooks to support standard changes or investigations for common issues related to network areas.
-Implements guided improvements to the optimization of network processes to improve efficiency.
Automation and Scripting:
-Contributes business logic to automation frameworks for testing and operations to enhance efficiency.
-Automates network tasks, including production and lab environments and repetitive support functions independently.
-Builds and customizes dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms to monitor network health.
-Writes moderately advanced scripts to automate routine tasks for the immediate team and other business units, independently.
-Uses infrastructure pipelines, configuration items, using established playbooks and resources.
-Adapts and configures tools with guidance to support specific aspects of new product functionality.
Testing and Quality Assurance:
-Develops and implements standalone test cases and test strategies independently.
-Provides expertise in test practices and strategies, guiding junior engineers in developing robust testing protocols.
-Provides break-fix validation support and conducts post-event root cause analysis (RCA) to address issues.
-Conducts L1 network change reviews and communicates network changes to others in preparation for change management review boards.
-Runs tests and verifies that systems meet defined compliance and readiness criteria, under supervision.
-Gathers Government, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) data following playbook and begins to innovate scripts to streamline data collection.
Monitoring and Reliability:
-Interprets advanced metrics across dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms to monitor network health, including defining metrics, trends, and thresholds to ensure service level objectives (SLOs).
-Implements monitoring and alerting systems for detecting and diagnosing network anomalies.
-Serves in operational support rotations by providing incident response and conducting root cause investigations, seeking assistance as needed to resolve escalated technical issues.
-Implements tools and solutions for frontline support teams to respond to network failure conditions.
Cross-Team Collaboration and Leadership:
-Collaborates with project/program managers to achieve test and deployment milestones.
-Provides guidance to junior engineers and acts as a subject matter expert (SME) for routine issues.
-Engages with customer and contributes to the delivery of incident response and root cause analysis (RCA) documentation.
-Participates in discussions on roadmap and software architecture design, providing feedback on ideas from junior team members.
-Collaborates with vendors and internal teams to ensure adherence to networking standards adherence, independently.
Performance and Capacity Management:
-Analyzes network performance and service metrics (e.g., latency, throughput, packet loss) to identify network efficiency issues, with support from other team members on next steps.
-Uses capacity information through security and performance metrics to ensure the infrastructure can support anticipated growth, requesting guidance from others on steps forward.

Preferred Job Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
6 + years of experience in network engineering, electrical engineering, cloud programming, or networking research and development
OR
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering, or related field AND 2 + years of experience in network engineering, electrical engineering, cloud programming, or networking research and development
OR
Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering, or related field
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Have the ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI eligibility with Poly required
  • Position is based in Austin, TX or Reston, VA

US: Hiring Range in USD from $39.90 to $79.86 per hour; from: $83,000 to $166,100 per annum. May be eligible for equity.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
