Job description

Every day we strive to provide the best possible experience to our users who are now numbered in billions, and to make that possible, we have deployed an ultra-high capacity backbone network that spans the globe. We are looking for a network planner to join our backbone team to support the expansion of our global network. This is an ideal role for a Network Planner that wants to work on a purpose-built and ever-expanding backbone network that touches and changes the lives of billions of people for the better every day.
Responsibilities
Analyze traffic capacity projections and develop an optical transport network capacity plan accordingly
• Partner with Software Engineering & Product Engineering teams to develop capacity planning models and optimization simulations for network infrastructure
• Partner with Network Engineering teams to establish new design standards and build them into production
• Follow the developments of IP or Optical technology roadmaps and capabilities
• Network design, accounting for technological capabilities and network routing, to ensure scaling requirements and resiliency for the network are met
• Model ad-hoc, what-if scenarios, including greenfield and brownfield demand and supply scenarios to set strategy
• Investigate collections of network failure and routing behaviors, and create simulation tests to improve network efficiency and network reliability metrics
• Oversee fiber topology evolution of the backbone to achieve resiliency, and latency requirements
• Work with engineering, finance, and sourcing to support backbone fiber acquisitions strategies
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• 3+ years of experience in network planning in high capacity, mission critical environment
• Experience with designing IP, Optical or Fiber networks and knowledge of current technology
• Knowledge of network topology and experience in building resiliency design
• 2+ years of experience with network modeling tools such as NPS, One Planner, Opnet, Cariden, WAE, Aria, WANDL or other in-house tool
• Programming experience in Python or a similar language
• BS or MS Degree in an Engineering or Analytical field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Management Science) or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with both terrestrial and submarine networks is desirable
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
• Experience modeling and analyzing a business case for network expansion or fiber acquisition
• Production transport network design
